The miniature Panchmukhi Hanuman statue is nicely crafted. Lord Hanuman is the pivotal figure in the epic Ramayana, where he played a key role in the battle launched against demon king Ravana, who had abducted Seeta, wife of Lord Ramchandra. Hanuman was a great devotee of Ramchandra. Here the five faces of Hanuman are beautifully designed. During the battle against Lord Rama, Ravana sought help from Mahiravana, the king of patala. To protect Lord Ram and Lakshman from the demon, Hanuman formed a fortress with his tail. Mahiravana came in the guise of Vibeeshana and took Lord Ram and Lakshman to pathala loka. Hanuman followed him to pathala loka. Hanuman realized that to kill Mahiravana, Hanuman had to extinguish five lamps burning in five different directions at the same time. So Hnuman took the Panchamukha form with Hanuman, Hayagriva, Narasimha, Garuda and Varaha faces and extinguished the lamps and killed Mahiravana. According to Hanumath Prakaranam in Sri Vidyarnavatantram, Anjaneya has five faces (Pancha Mukha) and ten weapons.
