A learned God, Lord Ganesha is often worshiped along with Lakshmi and such worship is believed to give us fortune and wealthsaid to have written the Mahabharata that was being dictated by Vyasa. Lord Ganesha is also the Lord of Wisdom and the Remover of Obstacles. An excellent example of the ancient dhokra technique, the statuette is created through a laborious lost wax process associated with the tribal groups of northern India. A model is sculpted of clay and dried in the sun; it is then covered with beeswax and more clay, forming a mold. The piece is cast, cleaned and again dried in the sun. Finally, it is heated in the ground for five days and polished.
