Pipli Applique Work

Lord Shiva, one of the Trinity, is being given a refine treatment in the beautiful Wall hanging. The Lord is wearing a tiger skin. His face is black and is holding a snake on his right hand and a trident on his left. The ferocious image of the god is given royal treatment with each segment of designs being appliquéd together with some sparkling embroidery works. As the Mahakal, Shiva is the Lord of Death or more correctly the Lord of Time. Before anything could come to exist, time has to be present. In fact time is the first condition for the existence of the world. It is prior to space.
The wall hanging is designed in the appliqué method. Applique(or appliqué) is a technique in which pieces of fabric are sewn onto a foundation piece of fabric to create designs. It is particularly suitable for work, which is to be seen from a distance, for example, Banner-making.
