Madurai Veeran is widely  worshipped in parts of South India where every village will have a temple for guardian deities on the outskirts,Veeran was a great good knight with thick black moustache, bulging eyes, huge sword,He is believed to be a warrior in the Southern Indian kingdom of king Pandyan and was appointed as the general in the capitol city of Madurai by the king.He was an excellent swordsman and got rid of thieves and threats to the kingdom. He was a warrior inspired by the gods to carry out his duties. He was falsely accused by treason and sentenced to death by the king. He had a vision of the Mother of universe and she asked of him to accept the sentence and as a result he welcomed death and he was uplifted to the state of a spirit guide by the Mother of universe.People particularly village people admired him to such an extent that even today they worship him as one of the Gods of  Tamilnadu.
