Stress and It's Management by Yoga

This monograph mainly covers our studies on the causes and management of the most common and disabling disorders of stress and strain of life. It is now well established that the brain with its known centres for sensory, intellectual and emotional functions plays the main role in maintaining a balanced condition of our body and mind by liberating required amount of neurohumors and hormones. Any disturbances of this homeostasis by genetic or environmental factors would ultimately lead to the development of the Stress Disorders. At first the changes are functional and later on bodily changes of Stress Disorders appear. In the treatment, during the acute stage, the use of tranquillizers and other drugs may help. However, if the disturbance persists, the practice of Yoga would help greatly to get over the neurohumoral changes occurring in the brain. Hence the integrated practice of Yoga has an important role to play in the prevention and treatment of Stress Diseases. All these aspects have been dealt with in the book in sufficient detail.

''With the increasing recognition all over the world of the importance of Yoga in maintenance of health and well being, this book will be worth reading by all medical practitioners.'' --D.D. Banker

''This is an excellent book and is an important contribution to Yoga Therapy.'' --The Theosophical Journal

The Ultimate Medicine: As Prescribed by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaja (1897-1981), one of the most important spiritual preceptors of the twentieth century, lived and taught in a small apartment in the slums of Bombay, India. A realized master of the Tantric Nath Lineage, Maharaja had a wife and four children. For many years, he supported himself and his family by selling cheap goods in a small booth on the streets outside his tenement. His life was a telling parable of the absolute non duality of being. The profound yet simple words of this extraordinary teacher are designed to jolt us into awareness of our original nature. Like the Zen masters of old, Nisargadatta's style is abrupt, provocative and immensely profound cutting to the core and wasting little effort on the trigger shifts in consciousness, just by gearing or even reading them. A study stream of Indians and Westerners, those fortunate enough to discover Maharaja during his lifetime, came to sit at his feet in the small loft where he received visitors. In the radiation of the sage Ramana Maharishi, he shared the highest truth of non duality in his own unique way, from the depths of his own realization. In this volume Nisargadatta provides advanced instructions for spiritual aspirants. The Ultimate medicine is not for those who like their spirituality watered down, but for serious students who will find herein powerful antidotes to unawareness.

"In the Ultimate Medicine, Nisargadatta, like the great sages of old India, elucidated the nature of Ultimate Reality clearly and simply. He makes the highest Self-realization a matter of common understanding so that any sincere seeker can grasp the essence of it." -- David Frawley, OMD, author of Beyond the Mind,Tantric Yoga, and Ayurvedic Healing<br /><br />"Nisargadatta Maharaj is my greatest teacher. His words guide my writing, speaking and all of my relationships." --Dr. Wayne Dyer, author of Your Sacred Self and Your Erroneous Zones

    Suryanamaskar - Sun Salutations

"Our body is essential for every achievement" said an ancient seer. That body should not be diseased but rather strong and healthy, with perfect harmony between the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects. One's natural state should include an all-encompassing feeling of unusual lightness, a fullness of health, and an experience of overall contentment. Bliss and perfection, overflowing vitality and energy, are the human birthright.

Who would not like to be strong, beautiful and healthy? Yet such characteristics do not manifest themselves merely by desire, nor are they commodities that can be purchased on world markets. They are something that only self-effort or tapasya can create. Furthermore, the Hindu four-fold goal of human life (dharma, artha, kama and moksha-duty, wealth, pleasure, and emancipation) is most easily obtained in a strong and healthy body. As the sage Charaka says in the Charaka Samhita, freedom from disease is health. While Indian medicine provides many effective remedies for illness, it acknowledges that prevention is much more effective than cure. In addition, statistics show that the cost of prevention is much more effective than cure. In addition, statistics show that the cost of prevention is less than one tenth that of fighting a manifested given illness. One of the best prophylactic measures against disease is regular physical exercise. The centuries-old system of Yoga with its distinct practice of Suryanamaskar remains the perfect all-inclusive health practice, even in today's busy world.
