A ten armed MahaKali literally translated as Great Kali, is a consort of Lord Shiva, shown here in this beautiful sculpture she is standing on the prone, inert body of Shiva. Mahakali represents Adi-Shakti or Primeval Force of the Universe the power of pure creation in the universe, and Shiva represents pure conciousness which is inert in and of itself. There is a colloquial saying that "Shiva without Shakti is Shava" which means that without the power of action (Shakti) that is Mahakali, Shiva is inactive; Shava means corpse in 'Sanskrit' the great language of ancient times. The use of copper and silver shade is making this brass sculpture more interesting.
