About the Author

अजय सोडानी का जन्म 8 अप्रैल, 1961 को इंदौर में हुआ। इनकी प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा इंदौर के वैष्णव स्कूल में हुई तथा इन्होंने एम.जी.एम. मेडिकल कॉलेज, इंदौर से ही एम.बी.बी.एस. तथा एम.डी. की उपाधि प्राप्त की।
भ्रमण करना इनके जीवन का विशेष पक्ष रहा है। इन्होंने शहरों से इतर, भारत के सुदूर इलाकों में भी सपत्नीक पैदल भ्रमण करने का गौरव हासिल किया है।
अपनी यात्राओं के दौरान अर्जित अनुभवों को कविता, निबन्ध, छायाचित्र तथा कहानियों का रूप देने वाले अजय सोडानी देश की विभिन्न पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में निरन्तर प्रकाशित व प्रशंसित होते रहे हैं।
अपनी विशिष्टता के कारण ही इनकी यात्राएँ 'लिम्का बुक ऑफ रिकार्ड्स—2006 तथा 2011 में दर्ज की जा चुकी हैं।

The Avatar concept is the very cornerstone of Hindu theology. According to it, the Supreme Power manifests itself in animal or human forms on earth, with the divine mission of cleansing it of the periodically increasing evil. The Avatar concept is closely related to the measurement of time in Hindu theology which has its basis on one working day of Brahma. According to the Bhagwat Purana, Brahma, the creator, is the causal effect of the predetermined periodic creation and dissolution of the universe. Each creation or Kalpa is equal to one day and each dissolution or Pralaya is equal to one night in the life of Brahma. A Kalpa and a Pralaya last for 4,320 million human years each. Every Kalpa has 1000 cycles of 4 Yugas (ages). Each cycle of 4 Yugas is completed in 4,320,000 human years. The Yugas are called Satya, Treta, Dwapara and Kali. The Avatars which are considered most significant are ten in number and they form the 'Dasha Avatar'. These ten avatars start with the form of a lowly fish and work up to the noble man, cast in the image of God. The fanciful find a parallel to Darwin's theory of evolution in the progression of these Avatars. The Avatars enable the common folk to speak of or listen to stories of divine doings which is a simple way of proceeding towards Godhead; particularly in our Kali Yuga with its 'sick hurry and divided aims

In Puranic lore, Vishnu is the preserver of the universe and the cosmic order. The Dasha Avatar is the Puranic story of the ten incarnations of Vishnu who descends to the terrestrial world to establish stability and order, time and again. The avatars occur in a sequence – the first was matsya or fish representing life in water, followed by kurma or turtle signifying life in water and on land, then varaha or boor alluding to terrestrial life and so on. The sequence of the avatars could be taken to symbolize various stages in the evolution of life culminating in the advent of the perfect being.

In this Pata painting, smart colour pattern makes the painting a rare treasure for art lovers. The Puranas speak of the ten avataars of Vishnu. These incarnations detail the divine help given by Vishnu during various stages of human evolution, by appearing on earth in different forms. These avatars are said to demonstrate that divinity re-establishes Dharma or righteousness and destroys injustice from time to time, by appearing on earth in various incarnations. The ten avataras are Matsyavatara (fish), Koorma (tortoise), Varaaha (boar), Narasimha (the man lion), Vaamana (the dwarf), Parasurama (the angry man), Rama (the perfect human), Balarama and Krishna (the divine statesman). The 10th avatar which is yet to appear is Kalki.

The pata painting on the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu is quite impressive. Such paintings popular in Orissa are marked by brilliant colours and sharp lines. The origin of the Patachitra paintings can be traced back to the 8th century AD and it is considered as one of the earliest forms of indigenous paintings. In this painting, ten different incarnations of the Lord Vishnu has been painted using sharp lines and variegated colours. The Vishnu normally resides in Baikuntha. Whenever there is turmoil on Earth, He descends into this material world to give His personal protection and association to His devotees, to punish the irreligious and to re-establish religion in the world. The Lord has innumerable incarnations and out of them, His most famous ten avataras are Matsya- the fish, Kurma-the tortoise, Varaha-the boar, Narasimha-the man-lion, Vamana-the dwarf brahman, Parasurama-the axe wielder, Rama-the bow wielder, Balarama-the plough wielder, Krishna- the complete Avatara and Kalki, who is yet to come.
