Description

Hanuman means "one with prominent or disfigured jaw". According to another theory, his name derives from the Sanskrit terms Han ("killed" or "destroyed") and maana (pride); the name implies "one whose pride was destroyed".
Once Lord Rama summarizes attributes of Hanuman's personality in the following manner. He is the ablest sentence maker, He is the know-er of all Vedas and Scriptures, He is the scholar in nine schools of grammars and one who is possessing faultless speech and facial features.
When Lord Ramchandra returned from Lanka to Ayodhya rescuing Sita, he decided to honour all those who helped him during the time of exile and war. After being crowned as the king of Ayodhya Lord Ram organized a ceremony in which everyone came with the desire of being rewarded but Hanuman came without any such desire. But Lord Rama was very overwhelmed and embraced seeing Hanuman. Lord Ram said that he could never thank Hanuman for his noble efforts and endless services. Lord Ram Said Hanuman effort cannot be valued.
Sita gave Hanuman a precious necklace that she was wearing. Everyone in the court was shocked when Hanuman tore open the stones of the necklace and looked into each one of them. They asked him why he had torn such a valuable necklace. Hanuman answered very politely that he was looking for his Lord Rama and Sita in these stones. When he could find no trace of his Lord in them, the necklace was literally valueless to him.
Everybody in the court laughed and challenged him to show if Ram-Sita residing in him. Hanuman tore off his chest and shocked everyone presenting in the court by seeing Ram and Sits literally residing in his heart. Lord Ram and Sita both were floored by Hanuman's love and devotion for them.

The monkey-god Hanuman, one of contemporary Hinduism's most popular deities, has a long history in Indian art and literature. This study traces Hanuman's gradual evolution from his role as helper and messenger of Rama in the Valmiki Ramayana in the 3rd century B.C.E. to his more dominant function in Tulasi Dasa's Ramacaritamanasa, written circa 1575 C.E. The beautiful Kalamkari painting depicts some of the animals moving forward in a spirited manner. The elephants, the horses, the oxen, camel etc are painted in a nice manner and the painting has some beautiful carvings. The Kalamkari art of painting is one of the most celebrated forms of art in the country and undergoes a laborious, slow process of resist - dyeing and hand printing method. Basically a pen work, it involves many stages before the final results are achieved. Unlike other styles of painting, Kalamkari painting demands a lot of treatment before and after the painting is completed on the cotton fabric. Depending on the treatment of cloth, or quality of the mordant, the colours change accordingly. Every step from soaking of the cloth, to sketching the outlines to washing and drying the cloth, is done carefully and correctly. The harmless, naturally dyed fabrics is used for Kalamkari paintings. The artists believe in using natural dyes, extracted from bark, flower and root. One would be stunned to know that the colour red is obtained by using the Indian madder root, yellow from the pomegranate seed or even mango bark, and black from myrobalam fruit. No chemical dyes are used is producing kalamkari colours!
In China Lord Buddha is known as "the laughing Buddha" and is usually represented as a rotund figure with a happy disposition. His Chinese name is Pu-tai Ho-shang or "Hemp-bag monk" who is originally a fertility figure and was known to bring "goodies" in his bag to local townsfolk, especially children. Later, he became a pre-incarnation of Maitreya. In Japan he is called Hotei and is one of the seven lucky gods. His figure is almost always seen carrying a cloth or linen sack, which never empties, and is filled with many precious items, including rice plants (indicating wealth), sweets for children, food, and the woes of the world. His duty is patron of the weak, poor and children. The brass statue carved out by the artist depicts a tubby, laughing bald man in robes with a largely exposed potbelly stomach that signifies happiness, good luck, and plenitude. The stomach is also considered the seat of the soul in Chinese mythology and so the large stomach can be taken as an allegory for his open heartedness. He most certainly is a loving and cheerful character, strikingly similar to Santa Claus in the West. It is believed that placing his statue at home or business places brings fortune.
The happy Buddha is a symbol of good luck. It is believed that whenever somebody keeps him by his side, the Laughing Buddha will bring fortune for the person concerned. The artist has chiselled out the figure in a most articulate manner giving a rare posture to it. The smoothness of the figure is attractive giving it a most pleasant look.
