Description:
Ashtavakra Says: • You are not the body which is composed of the five elements. You are that Consciousness which has provided the inert body with the sentience that makes the senses function I regard to their objects. It is sentience which makes the psychosomatic apparatus work as a unit. • Anticipating the query from his intelligent disciple, the guru tells him further, “You” are not the physical organism but Consciousness which works not as someone in charge of the operations of the physical organism but merely as the witness of the operations.
• You have wrongly identified yourself as the individual, as the doer of all actions that take place through the physical organism, and thereby unnecessarily assume the responsibility for the actions which take place, and thus assume the bondage from which you are seeking liberation.
• The witness cannot be the doer, and you are therefore not the doer. With this understanding, you can detach yourself from the wrong identification with the body. And when you do this, you will automatically assume your true position as the witness and remain relaxed (because there is not the tension of responsibility for the actions) in consciousness, as consciousness.
• The state of being disidentified from the body is the state of witnessing (when the individual “me” is not present). And this state of detached witnessing is indeed the state of liberation. This is what the Self-realized guru means when he says that when you remain relaxed in Consciousness (without identification with the body), the state of liberation is sudden and immediate.
The words “remain relaxed in Consciousness” from the very basis of the Ashtavakra teaching.

Description:
Order flows from consistent laws. Our understanding of our universe is changing, but Reality behind it is unchanged. Einstein’s relativity amended Newtonian determinism, and was in turn amended by quantum mechanics. Einstein saw a harmonious advance in knowledge, and said, “God does not play dice”; but Stephen Hawking later saw a radical departure, and said, “God is a gambler”.
This author, a deep student of philosophy with a moderate background of science, sees in these conflicting conclusions the inevitable distortion when “the relative” is projected on to “the Absolute.” Therefore he says, “Do not worry about God. He is not a visiting player like you and me, but the absolute owner of the casino. When He plays, His ieft hand picks up what His right hand loses, His status remains unaltered. We had better be looking out for ourselves.” The serious point made is that the Absolute includes and exceeds the time-space-causation frame of relativity, and these parameters cannot cross the border.
The limitations must be clearly understood.
“Time” of physics is enough to study kinetic processes but not to locate the creative potential. That requires “time” of our conscious awareness. But bio-science mistakes consciousness to be a product of brain-cells. In truth, consciousness is the energy, and brain is the equipment through which it manifests.
Thus TIME is the Achilles’ heel of physics, and MIND is the Achilles’ heel of biology. The name of Reality is Total Consciousness. It is eternal, Death was never born, and life never died.

We are constantly feeding and dressing and indulging our bodies, but how often do we nourish our soul? Shwetaashwatara Upanishad, the rare gem amongst the Upanishads, teaches us just how to do that. Indeed, it is the priceless oyster in which the pearl of Vaidika philosophy glows with an ethereal light.
What is the cause of this Universe, that is obviously so beautifully ordered? Who is in control of it… since we definitely are not? From where have we arisen? What are we doing here? What is our goal? These are the eternal questions the Upanishad asks. It answers them by scientifically eliminating various possibilities. The final answer, however, is hidden from the rational brain, and requires deep contemplation to ferret out.
We are blessed to have the answers served to us, as if on a platter, by the enlightened Yogi named Shwetaashwatara. While his grounded wisdom flings open the doors and windows of our minds, his devotion overwhelms us with its sheer intensity. The Shwetaashwatara Upanishad is indeed a gem to treasure!

Description:
Zen Publications of Mumbai has just published Stillpoint, a novel of war, peace, politics and Palestine, by Canadian writer, Colin Mallard. As the events of the last six weeks have shown, a book that addresses the Palestinian Israeli conflict, could hardly be more timely.
Mallard has previously written award winning non fiction books on Taoism, Zen and Advaita Vedanta. In 2013 Stillpoint was a finalist in the 'US Next Generation Indie Book Awards' in the category of general fiction over 80,000 words.
We all love stories and Mallards novel traces events beginning in the 1940s to the present. Although a work of fiction, it is based on historical events and written, in part, to help readers understand the underlying causes of the current conflict.
Stillpoint is a beguiling story of love and hope, peopled with unforgettable characters, vivid and haunting. It is a love story, a hymn to the great mystery of life.
To read Stillpoint is to be transported to another world, another time. Moved by the beauty of life and the ugliness, we find ourselves on a wild ride between love and hate, justice and injustice, sorrow and joy.
The novel is both historical and allegorical, some might even call it fantasy. It questions things we take for granted and assume to be true. It trusts the reader is more interested in the truth, the facts, than beliefs or ideology. Christ is reputed to have said, The truth will make you free. It is this idea thats at the heart of Stillpoint.
What can we do to ease the suffering in Palestine and replace conflict with peace? Mallard suggests only the truth, the facts, can bring it about. Truth, he says, must,' however, be valued more than beliefs and ideology.
How would we be, you and me, under circumstances the Palestinians and Israelis find themselves? Human nature is the same in us all and when we can answer that question for ourselves understanding takes place. The source of conflict, it turns out, is not geographical but personal-it might manifest as geographical but the source of conflict is always personal, in us, you and me. There are no exceptions.
Understanding, Mallard suggests, takes place when the mind is open, when we approach life from the perspective of not knowing, with a beginners or Zen mind. Such understanding, he suggests, brings action, including non-action that are both appropriate to the situation at hand and the nature of the person involved.'
From the perspective of Advaita it is clear there are not two. In this instance, the world is not divided into two groups of people, one good the other bad. We are the same! And when we understand ourselves we understand all human beings.
From the perspective of Advaita, no one is to blame, no one is right, no one is wrong.
What then is happening? People are simply doing the best they can under the circumstances and the powerful influence of their beliefs.
All is Maya until the illusion is seen for what it is - ignorance, lack of awareness. Just as awareness is the first step in understanding ourselves it is also the first step in understanding the current conflict and our relationship to it. Where ignorance once existed, understanding can replace it.

It is everyone`s experience that the basis of daily living is facing life from moment to moment, necessarily accepting whatever the moment brings - sometimes pain, sometimes pleasure. The interconnected opposites of pain and pleasure, along with the opposites of every conceivable kind, beginning with male and female, form the very basis of life and living; and, therefore, it is impossible to separate one from the other. What the human being wants is one and not the other - pleasure and not the pain. And this pursuit of one as against the other is the main cause of why religion flourishes, various god-men flourish, promising the impossible and leading to frustration.

When you applied for work in Saudi Arabia, didn’t you think you would work for a few years, make a pile, marry off your daughter or sister, build a home, retire to the good life?
When you paid the huge commission to the recruitment agent and a large fee for your visa, did anybody tell you the bad news?
Ihat your contract may be ‘renegotiated’ once you land in Saudi Arabia. You may not be paid your salary for months. You may have to sleep in chains. You may be falsely charged, perfunctorily tried and jailed. You may be threatened with sacking or your salary may be withheld if you spurn your employer’s ‘suggestion’ to convert to Islam.
If you are a maid, you might be raped. If you are a male you may be thrashed by your boss for even a minor bungle.
The dangers foreign workers face in Saudi Arabia are manifold. Yet the foreign embassies behave like ostriches, leaving the vulnerable employees to Saudi mercy. Meanwhile, thousands continue to queue up with job agents in New Delhi, Mumbai, Karachi, Dhaka, Colombo, Manila and other cities... lured by the petrodollars that they believe will fulfil their dreams of a better life for themselves and their families.

Self Calling is an assortment of Self-Reminder meditatlons in which Nitin Ram’s spontaneous insights relentlessly destroy all concepts of ‘Self’, pointing you towards the wordless ‘Nothingness’, a state beyond any need.
Carrying on the legacy of his Gurus, Sri Osho and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, Nitin’s inspired words of Wisdom and Love, flrst engulf and then gulp what you think is ‘You’.
You may discover that these intention-less pointers not only bestow deep reflection but also have a way of circumventing the mind and striking deep into the heart . . . dropping ‘you’ into the ever-existing Natural state.
These pointers will help shed all misunderstandings about ‘Enlightenment’ being personal for the ‘assumed’ personality trying to seek it. “The ‘seeking entity’ that is trying to recognise the illusion,” Nitin points out, “is the Mother of All Illusions!”
With sparkling wit and ripened wisdom Nitin uses what he calls ‘the double-edged sword of Love and Truth, compassionately edging the reader to topple beyond the Known. “To know by BEING is direct knowledge, sans knower. FULL STOP.”
These intuitive quotes may help setyou free from your (mis) concepts of bondage and freedom, helping you discover Independent Joy as your Real Nature.
A heartfelt invitation to sit back and enjoy this book . . . as Totality unfolds infinite possibilities.

Description:
Ramesh S. Balsekar has authored more than 45 well-known books over two decades. He has always had a uniquely individualistic approach to spiritual seeking and, in the course of his teaching, he has developed several unique concepts. For instance, what is the ego? He has clarified that ‘you’ cannot have an ego, from which you seek freedom. You are the ego, the separate entity, the seeker who seeks the freedom of enlightenment, and finally arrives at the successful conclusion that what he is actually seeking is freedom from his own sence of personal doership.
Similarly, his concepts like the ‘working mind’ and the ‘thinking mind’, free will and predetermination being not opposites but complementaries, the difference between witnessing, observing and non-witnessing, biological reaction and egoic reaction among others have been found most useful by seekers and teachers alike, all over the world.

This book is a collection of articles written over a period of a few years and later put together. The astounding first intimation to the effect that, by the word GOD, all saints and sages of all times have implied the realizable truth of oneself, was received by the author when he was a 35 years old man-of-the-world. The revelation broke upon him with explosive wonderment and delight. How could such an inheritance be forfeited through indifference? He questioned, searched foranswers, contemplated, and tried to shape his life as prompted by the ascending reality of self-enquiry.

Description:
“Redemption can result from reaching out when we have many good reasons not to. It can come from forgiving the unforgivable. Redemption is often the result of opening a closed heart -- no matter how justified we have been in shutting it. Redemptions are the hard mental, emotional and spiritual reversals in life. The woman who was in my office when this book was conceived said about the difficulty of redemptive work: “It’s like making a U-turn with your face pressed up against granite.” And although redemptive paths often require great exertion, the success of that effort is not always in the hands of the one making the effort. I think redemption straddles the border between the territory of the psyche -- where effort and intention are useful and necessary -- and the mysterious dimensions of spirituality from which grace emerges.”
-- from the Introduction to Redemption Stories: Unwasted Pain
PRAISE FOR Redemption Stories: Unwasted Pain
For her book, Redemption Stories: Unwasted Pain, psychotherapist Mary Ciofalo collected the narratives of people who have experienced trauma and come out the other side...Despite the sadness in these pages, Ciofalo’s book is not depressing. In fact, the overall effect is hopeful, even inspiring. The message is that there are second chances -- even for people who have committed hideous crimes, or been victims of senseless violence. -- quoted from Connie Matthiessen, New Bernal Journal
This book is definitely a brightly shining candle in a sometimes-darkening world. Redemption Stories will mean a lot to people who are lucky enough to find it... I spent much of last night reading it. And that’s the first and most important comment: this book is compelling reading -- and not just because of the stories themselves, but because of the very clear and compelling telling.

Ramesh would explain, It can only be known from personal investigation and experience that no action is my action. The teaching can be of use only if it helps you to live your life in peace.

Description:
The Guru-disciple relationship is the bedrock of spirituality. For the disciple there is no one higher than the Guru. His attunement with his spiritual mentor is a pressing need; a seamless communion with the Guru the ladder on which he climbs up the path to deeper self-investigation. This connection has to be tenacious as well as flexible, ardent as well as judicious, vibrant but relaxed, pure yet easy. The Guru and disciple are after all one and the same: The entirety of spirituality lies in this realization.
Though the teachings of Guruji, the Satguru of the author, this book shows how a disciple may commence laying the foundation of this supreme tie and go about the spiritual journey. The teachings, given out through the shabads, are universal yet unique. They are this-worldly yet capable of ushering the sincere practitioner to the arms of the beloved infinite. They establish the grounds of humanity and of its dharma. They show that the Satguru is alone real, the pole star of the disciple, the husbandman and protector of his soul, the truth that the earnest disciple and a misguided humanity seek in varied ways.
This book is a pilgrimage into the sacred territory of the Satguru s Word, a fulfilment in part of Guruji s instruction to his disciple. Guruji s words here are a great benediction, mapping our way to a common realm of love and light. They are the Word made vatic and sacrosanct, empowered by the truth-charge of his great being.

Description:
The Sage of Arunachala preferred to teach in silence. But when he did use words, he used few and he used them with telling effect. What struck you most about what he said was the authority of knowing that backed each word uttered.
Though all of what Ramana said was rich with meaning, if one has to grasp the very core of his teaching, one needs to sieve and filter, doggedly staying focussed on the very fundamentals of what he taught. Even those who have read many books on Ramana Maharshi’s teachings will find this book different: focussed on the ultimate happiness as one’s very nature.
More importantly, this book bring across points about Ramana Maharshi’s sayings which have not been given adequate attention and significance. To give three instances:
The very thought of God is Divine Favour. It is by God’s grace that a thought of God arises in the mind.
There is absolutely no need to hurry about anything: everything must happen only at the precise time appointed by the Cosmic Law.
The ego of the sage is like the remnants of a burnt rope.
Pointers From Ramana Maharshi brings you the teachings of Advaita Master Adi Shankara as expounded by Ramana Maharshi, distilled to their very quintessential understanding, by an experienced writer like Ramesh Balsekar.

Description:
It is everyone’s experience that the basis of daily living is facing life from moment to moment, necessarily accepting whatever the moment brings - sometimes pain, sometimes pleasure.
