In this statue of Lord Buddha, brass, reconstituted lapis and coral are proportionately used that gives the product a huge appeal. The Lord is in Abhayamudra posture. The indigo colour drapery is covering the half of the body of the Lord. The right part of his chest is left uncovered. Medicine Buddha is a popular deity in Buddhism and is fully enlightened being, who is a being who is completely free from the darkness of ignorance. It is believed that Medicine Buddha protects living beings from physical and mental sickness and other dangers and obstacles, and helps them to eradicate the three poisons – attachment, hatred, and ignorance – which are the source of all sickness and danger. In this serene product of Medicine Buddha, brass, reconstituted turquoise and coral are used to give a special impact to the product. The Lord is wearing a lone cloth which is painted indigo with the use of reconstituted turqoise and red coral. His head is finely carved and face looks magnificent. On his one hand there is a medicine bowl and with his other hand he is blessing his disciples. His breast is half covered with a fine cloth and his cross-legged posture gives a grand appearance. Lord Buddha is said to have known lot of herbal medicines and taught his disciples about the secrets of these medicines. His radiant body is azure blue. His left hand is in the meditation mudra and holds a begging bowl full of long life nectar in his lap. As a sign that he gives protection from illness, his right hand is outstretched in the gesture of giving and holds the "great medicine", the myrobalan plant. His left hand rests in his lap, palm upward, in the gesture of meditative stability or meditation, which represents the eradication of sickness and suffering— and, indeed, the very roots of samsara— through the realization of absolute truth. From the point of view of either relative truth or absolute truth, the fundamental cause of sickness and suffering is a lack of contentment and the addictive quality of samsara. Therefore, to indicate the need for contentment, in his left hand he holds a begging bowl.
