As the name suggests, Kalamkari is the art of painting cotton fabrics with a kalam i.e. pen, a sharp pointed pierced bamboo that regulates flow of colour on the fabric. The popularity of this exquisite form of art crossed the shores of the country during the 17th and 18th centuries. Kalahasti and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh, the nerve centres of this art continue to be beehives of Kalamkari activity. Kalamkari colours are made from vegetable dyes.

The Brass statue of Sai Baba is beautifully crafted by the artist. The seating posture of the guru yields a deep sense of thought. It seems the worldly pains have given him agony and he was trying for a solution. He was an Indian guru and fakir, who is regarded by his Hindu and Muslim followers as a saint. In his life and teachings he tried to embrace and reconcile both faiths: Sai Baba lived in a mosque, was buried in a Hindu temple, embraced Hindu and Muslim practices, and taught using words and figures that drew from both traditions.


The chain of brass bells with statue of Lord Hanuman is an auspicious bell often used in Hanuman Temple. It can also be used at home in front of a statue or image of Lord Hanuman. The sound of the bell creates divine energy. The sound of 11 bells creates a symphony that has a soothing effect.




This beautiful Kalamkari painting depicts Jatayu’s fight with the demon king Ravana. Jatayu was the son of Aruna and nephew of the bird king ‘Garuda’ (Lord Vishnu’s carrier). When Rama and Lakshmana were not near Sita, Ravana; the king of Lanka, was forcibly taking away Sita as a captive in his famed aircraft Pushpak. Sita was crying and calling aloud for help from all that was visible. At that time Jatayu; the Great Bird and a friend of King Dasharatha (Lord Rama’s Father) tried to rescue Sita, Jatayu was old but brave also, so he challenged Ravana and made a great and heroic fight with him. He killed Ravana’s charioteer and the mules. He caused so grievous injuries on Ravanaalso, but the mighty Ravana the king of Lanka attacked him mid air and after an intense fight managed to cut off Jatayu’s wings. Jatayu fell down to earth and held on his breath for some more time to tell Rama that Sita was taken away as a captive by the demon-king Ravana. Jatayu breathed his last in the lap of knowing well that Rama was none other than Lord Vishnu. Rama and Lakshmana performed the last rites Jatayu, as a son would do on his father’s death.
