            Description

The brass figure of Lord Vishnu sitting on Sheshnag is nicely carved out with a deep sense of finesse. One of the Trinity Gods in Hinduism, the other two being Lord Shiva and Brahma, Lord Vishnu is responsible for the preservation of the universe. He is normally depicted as resting in a reclining Sheshnag in the ocean. It is believed that Vishnu takes birth every time there is an impending catastrophe before the planet earth. In Hindu tradition, Shesha, also known as Sheshanaga or Adishesha is the king of all Nāgas, one of the primal beings of creation, and according to the Bhagavata Purana, an avatar of the Supreme God known as Narayana. In Puranas, Sheshanaga is said to hold all the planets of the Universe on his hoods and to constantly sing the glories of Vishnu from all his mouths. It is said when Adishesa uncoils, time moves forward and creation takes place. When he coils back, the universe ceases to exist. Shesha is generally depicted with a massive form that floats coiled in space, or on the ocean of milk, to form the bed on which Vishnu lies. According to Mahabharata, Shesha was born to sage Kaśyapa and his wife Kadru. Kadru gave birth to a thousand snakes, of which Shesha was the eldest. After Shesha, were born Vāsuki, Airāvata and Takṣaka. As a lot of Sesa brothers were cruel in nature, Sesa left his mother and kin, and resorted to austere penance. His penances were so severe that his flesh, skin and muscles dried up and merged with his frame. He was able to please Brahmā. Following this, Shesha was able to keep his mind under control so that he could continue to perform ascetic penances. Brahma asked Sesa to go beneath the unstable earth and stabilize it. Sesa agreed and went to the netherworld, and stabilized her with his hood. He is known to support her even today, thus making Pātala his perennial residence.

                                  Description

In this brass figure Shri Narasimha is shown with Lakshmi. Narasimha, the half-human, half-lion incarnation of Lord Vishnu, provides a very fascinating study of the Lord's incarnation in order to lessen the sufferings of his devotees. Sage Kashyap had four wives, Diti, Aditi, Vinita and Kudroo. From Diti was born demons and Aditi gave birth to gods, while from Vinita was born Garud, the carrier of Vishnu and the last one Kudroo created the hydras. Diti gave birth to Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu. Lord Vishnu had to kill Hiranyaksha as he wrought havoc on the gods. Following this Hiranyakashipu bore a strong hatred for Lord Vishnu and Vishnu's very name was like poison to him. His blood was boiling with the hatred of Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu went to the mountain Mandara and began the severe order of penance and could successfully invoke Lord Brahma from whom he received a boon that he could be killed neither by any creature created by Brahma; either in the house nor outside it; neither either during the daytime nor at night; no weapon could cause his death and he should not die either on land or in the sky. Armed with such a boon, the demon crossed all limits and wrought havoc on heaven and earth. He even dethroned Indra, the king of heavens. Hiranyakashipu's son Prahalad was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu right from his very childhood. Prahalad had not pay any attention to the orders of his father not to worship Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu is father tried to kill his son in a fit of anger. But all his attempts were foiled by Prahlad's saviour Lord Vishnu. At last Hiranyakashipu thundered at Prahlad and asked him who his protector was? Prahalad replied: "It was Hari who gave me this courage. He is stronger than anyone else. You and I, the universe, even Brahma are nothing before his strength. He is the real Lord of the Universe.” He shouted in rage: “Show me where is he” Prahlad replied: “He is everywhere.” The king could no longer control his anger. He hit a pillar with his mace. “Is he here?” He asked Prahlad. He drew out his sword and pounced upon the little boy. A terrible deafening sound came and as the stunned men watched, the pillar split into two and was born the Sri Hari, in the form of Narasimha with a head of a lion and the body of a man. (Nara = Man: Simham = Lion). He ultimately killed Hiranyakashipu and saved the world.

The beautiful brass figure of the Preserver of the Universe Lord Vishnu is given an exquisite treatment with some sparkling designs. One of the Trinity Gods in Hinduism, the other two being Lord Brahma (Creation of the Universe) and Lord Shiva (Destruction and Regeneration), Lord Vishnu is responsible for the preservation of the Universe. In order to preserve and protect the devotees from impending catastrophe, the Lord takes incarnation in human forms. There are as many as ten incarnations of the Lord. He is here protected by the serpent over his head. Even His headgear is given a resplendent treatment with some exquisite carvings on it. His drapery and jewelries are also sparkling. On His two hands, the Protector of the Universe is holding conches and on His third hand is the bludgeon. The Lord is blessing His disciples with His fourth hand. His long drapery is flowing below His feet. A deep sense of aesthetic beauty and accomplishment is manifest in the beautiful figure.

In the Puranas, Vishnu is described as having the divine color of clouds (dark-blue), four-armed, holding a lotus, mace, conch and chakra (wheel). Vishnu is also described in the Bhagavad Gita as having a 'Universal Form' (Vishvarupa) which is beyond the ordinary limits of human sense perception.

One of the Trimurti Gods in Hinduism, "in which the cosmic functions of creation, maintenance, and destruction are personified by the forms of Brahma the creator, Vishnu the maintainer or preserver, and Shiva the destroyer or transformer. These three deities have been called "the Hindu triad" or the "Great Trinity.

Prahlada was the son of demon king Hiranyakashipu who hated even the name of Lord Vishnu, due to this haterdness he even didn't spare his son Prahlada.Prahlada had to face lot of torture and abuse by his father. Hiranyakashipu tried so many times to kill Prahlada but by the grace of Lord Vishnu he remained safe at every attempt,no one was able to oppose or kill Hiranyakashipu because he had recieved a boon from Lord Brahma that he would not be killed by any man, woman, or animal, nor through weapon neither in the day nor at night, neither on the ground and nor in the air,in the house or outside. Then to protect his devotee Prahlada,Lord Vishnu took the form of Narasimha (The half man half lion) He dragged the the demon on his lap (Neither ground nor in air) the time was evening (Neither day nor night)and tor his stomach with his claws (No man made weapons) As Lord Krishna said in Gita "Hey Arjuna i come time to time in different incarnations to protect Dharma on this Mother Earth.
