Description:
Shri Nisargadatta Maharaj was one of the most significant spiritual teachers of Non-Duality of his time. His powerful non-dual teachings continue to impact spiritual seekers from all over the world, decades after his passing. Maharaj spoke in his mother tongue, Marathi, and a translator would then translate his words into English. It goes without saying that the translator had to be finely tuned not only to Maharaj’s teachings but also to the subtle nuances of his language, his singular vocabulary of spiritual terms and his distinctive teaching idiom. Those who had the good fortune of being in Maharaj’s presence reiterate that the intensity of his teaching was at its peak in the last five years before he shed his body. In those years, a relatively young disciple, ShriDinkarKshirsagar, sat at Maharaj’ssatsangs with a notebook. Every time Maharaj said something which impacted him – it could be a sentence or an entire chunk of conversation – Dinkar-ji would jot it down faithfully, making note of the exact Marathi words used by Maharaj. Though he did not jot down every single word spoken by Maharaj during satsang, his meticulous unfiltered ‘excerpts’ comprised the very essence of the Living Teaching manifesting through Maharaj. They accurately reflected Maharaj’s intensity, his steadfast rootedness in the Self and his utterly natural, intention-less compassion for the spiritual seeker. These talks were first published in Marathi in a book titled Atmaprem. They were subsequently translated into English by Shri Mohan Gaitonde, Maharaj’s ‘evening’ translator, who had the privilege of being with him from 1979 to 1981. This translation is made special by one outstanding fact: years of intuitively translating Maharaj, and that too in his presence, bestowed upon Gaitonde-ji an invaluable gift – an ‘ear’ for Maharaj’s voice and tone. In other words, for his subtlest nuance. For spiritual seekers, keen on accessing Maharaj’s original teachings, this has indeed turned out to be a wonderful gift.

Description:
‘YogirajShri Shankar Maharaj was a Siddha yogi, a compassionate and unusual Guru not bound by rules or convention. He was bent and deformed in body, and usually appeared to be half-witted and inebriated from the brandy he drank. However when situation demanded, he would use his yogic powers to appear like a child to some, a tall muscular yogi to others, and even as Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman to some others.
Shri Shankar Maharaj belonged to the NathPanth though he never wore the traditional attire of the sect. Maharaj spoke with a lisp and preferred not to preach himself, using instead disciples like TaisahebMehendale and SardarMirikar to spread the message of Dnyaneshwari, a commentary on the Bhagavad Gita by Sage Dnyaneshwar – a work that was very dear to Maharaj.
Maharaj extended his abundant grace to the rich and poor alike and was loved by all. Also his teachings were not limited to the Hindu tradition. In fact, he taught Muslims like Khansaheb the true meaning of Islam and induced them to do daily namaz. His contemporaries – Chile Maharaj of Kolhapur, known as the avatar of Lord Dattatreya, Fakir Baba, well-known sage from Maharashtra, and HazratBabajan, the renowned lady Sufi sage from Pune – considered him as their spiritual ‘brother’.
When Maharaj took samadhi in 1947 in Pune he was about 150 years of age. To this day hundreds of devotees visit his samadhi located on Pune-Satara road.
Yogiraj chronicles the life and teachings of this spiritual giant in the words of some of his most prominent disciples.

Description:
‘Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi and the Holy Hill of Arunachala are the names given to that Ultimate Truth which is beyond all names and forms. The identity of these two forms as the one Ultimate Truth, the Self, leads us to call Bhagavan ‘Arunachala-Ramana’. He realized not only Arunachala, but every being and everything as His own Self. Arunachala-Ramana had no merely localised experience of ‘I’ as the body-mind complex; He realized the ‘I’ as this universal, all-pervading Self.
The name and form of Arunachala-Ramana is the entry door to realization of this universal, all-pervading Self for spiritual seekers. He has appeared as the Guru to guide them on this journey to the ultimate fulfilment of one’s life to realize the Self.
Those who worship the Holy Hill of Arunachala by per-forming Giripradakshina receive blessings to accelerate reaching their goal to merge with that Self into which Arunachala-Ramana has merged. Arunachala-Ramana has said time again that the Holy Hill of Arunachala waits to respond eagerly and tenderly to even the devotee’s weakest yearning to fulfill the Ultimate Goal of Life.
As Arunachala-Ramana said, He has not gone anywhere, but dwells in devotees’ hearts, and is eternally there as the Self.

Description:
‘Decoding Karl is akin to understanding electricity: simply cannot be done. Its effects, though, may be felt and described. That’s what you may encounter here in Worry And Be Happy.
It’s the welcome release from needing any release which makes Karl’s display of ‘the audacity of hopelessness’ in this book so enchanting and endearing.
If you believe you have ‘made it spiritually’ it may be worthwhile to test your ‘understanding’ through an encounter with Karl. Honestly though, in such a situation, he is not the kind of guy you would particuiarly enjoy meeting! In the now overcrowded world of sagely Advaita gurus dishing out profound insights into our real nature, Karl stands out as a sore thumb. Like a drunken Kung-Fu master, Karl, in his crazy off-balance style, mocks and punctures the validity of these insights - displaying unshakable balance!
With sparkling and soothing humour, Karl mesmerizingly rips through anything and everything that can be ripped through, to the mixed dismay and wonder of onlookers. And underlining it all is an unmistakable unshakability. In fact, it is this effortless unshakability which manifests through Karl that draws seasoned seekers to him. They flock to him either through resignation or a renewed desire for a breakthrough. Thankfully, once there, neither seems to matter!

‘Shakuntala Hawoldars writings are poignant renderings of human struggles and sufferings in a world dominated by power, ignorance, inequality, misfortunes and psychological frailties. Her rich vocabulary and her choice of syntax mesmerize the reader in a no-mind land where self-inquiry takes over your imagination. The light of hope for a better world and a better life is kindled if you allow yourself to be carried away by her writings and Being which is poured willingly on to every page. Imbued with a sincerity that rises like a fountain of water and falling into flames. The heart expands. It becomes light and fire. The womans heart is revealed, totally naked, in her poems. But a heart that wants to transfigure. Hers is the search for the Absolute. Malcolm de Chazal, acclaimed Mauritian writer and poet, in Advance newspaper Work of a rare genius: rare because non-alcoholic and sober, un-subjected to the tragic trickery of life and cheerful... A fascinating and intriguing balance of the Male and the Female. The latter enables clarity of vision and easy and pellucid flow of mysticism. Description:
‘Extreme’- that’s how seasoned Advaita buffs would term the Karl Renz brand of Advaita, suggesting compromise as an option. However the option of compromising or not itself gets burnt out in the untamed fire of Karl’s living words.
‘I would rather kill myself than bullshit myself,’ says Karl, scoffing at requests to be ‘nice’ or ‘accommodating’ to listeners gasping for survival. By neither confirming nor destroying core ideas of mind, no-mind, presence, absence, real, unreal, he ends up mesmerising the intellect. ‘Oxy-moron’ Karl merrily hums his song of irrelevance without intention of teaching, sharing or clarifying - whatever. Care-freeness itself in action.
Paradoxes unlimited, neti-neti: negation-negation, then negation of the negator and finally negation of negation itself. In that, there is no ‘finally’. This seemingly is the melody of Karl’s ‘Song of Irrelevance - meditation of what you are’.
I don’t talk to ‘you’, he says. Relevance seekers can eat their hearts out. Irrelevance of irrelevance pervades here - with the flavourless flavour of nobody needing to grasp anything! And the effect? Smiles and chuckles unlimlted!
Welcome to this menu of ‘indigestible’ talks - an assortment of talks from Coimbatore, India and Koh Samui, Thailand. You may savour them, even chew on them, but digesting them could be hazardous. . . . they could well end up digesting you!

Description:
You cannot have an ‘ego’ because you are the ego: Consciousness identified with a name and form as a separate entity. The sage responds to his name being called; therefore, the sage has an ego. The ordinary man also responds to his name being called. What is the difference between the ego of the sage and the ego of the ordinary man? That is the core question. The answer is that in the ego of the sage the sense of personal doership has been totally annihilated: he knows that he is only a psychosomatic apparatus through which the Primal Energy functions and brings about whatever is supposed to happen according to the Cosmic Law. The ego of the ordinary man is impregnated with the sense of personal doership. The ego of the sage is totally free from the burden of pride and arrogance for his good actions and guilt and shame for his bad actions, whereas the ego of the ordinary man carries the burden of guilt and shame for his own actions and a heavier burden of hatred for the others for their actions which have hurt him. In the words of Ramana Maharshi, the ego of the sage is like “the remnants of a burnt rope.”

Description:
The Knight Writings chronicles the internal struggle of a spiritual journey -- the personal battle to bring the principles of truth and love to places locked inside by fear.
The knights of old provide a model for this struggle. These are not the knights of storybooks and fantasy but the knights who preceded the romantic figures remembered by history.
This book asks its readers to look closely at their personal and spiritual beliefs and the gap between them. It proposes that spiritual truths cannot truly be known prior to the acceptance of oneself personally.
Not for the spiritually squeamish, the knight’s path to God passes through the most distressing territory of all -- the ego. Despite the difficulty of this course, readers may find that this is the only way to make something that doesn’t exist disappear.

Description:
The Holy Hill of Arunachala is one of the oldest and most sacred holy places in India. Lord Shiva, the very embodiment of wisdom, out of His supreme compassion and to bless the world, manifested in the form of the Holy Hill. This led devotees to start the practice of Giripradakshina, walking around the Holy Hill as an act of reverence and worship.
Devotees who come from far and wide together to worship the Swayambhu lingam thus understand that they are not doing Giripradakshina around an ordinary hill of rocks and mud, but to Lord Arunachala Himself. It is one of the most important forms of worship of Lord Shiva and, in fact, one of the most efficacious forms of sadhana.
Giripradakshina has been practiced since time immemorial by saints, sages, devotees, and siddhas. Authoritative references to this fact are found in the Vedas, Puranas, Stotras, and devotional hymns. The importance of Giripradakshina and the benefits that accrue from it have been proclaimed by Lord Shiva Himself. He is ever ready to grant the prayers of devotees who go around the Hill, remembering its nature and seeking its blessings.
Bhagavan Ramana declared that the holy Hill of Arunachala is the heart of the earth, the spiritual centre of the world. He expressed His adoration in action, by doing Pradakshina to the Sacred Hill countless times. While emphasizing the importance of Self-enquiry, Bhagavan Sri Ramana taught His devotees the importance of Giripradakshina by His own example.
Let us humbly Pray to Arunachala Ramana to Grace us with the strength to do the circumambulation of the Holy Hill of Arunachala with devotion.

Description:
Seven centuries ago Saint Dnyaneshwar wrote a commentary on Gita called Bhavarthadeepika, now popularly known as Dnyaneshwari after its author. He wrote it on the instructions of his Guru Nivruttinath who wanted to bring to the common man the Vedanta philosophy of Upanishads, hitherto available to only Sanskrit- knowing pundits. Since then Dnyaneshwari has been a timeless spiritual guide providing solace to the rustic folk as well as the educated elite. It is considered by many as one of the most important guides for spiritual aspirants seeking Self-Realization and moksha, offering them a choice of four spiritual paths depending upon their individual makeup,
Onyaneshwar Maharaj naturally composed this work in contemporary Marathi in the traditional ovi style verse. To this day, melodious singing of these verses can be heard in Indian villages.
Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, taking into account that the reader would most probably be a rustic farmer or a villager, has used numerous similes and examples from nature and day-to-day life to explain the Gita shlokas. In this translation, meant for today’s well-educated reader, all superfluous similes and examples have been omitted to ensure a smooth flow of philosophical thought without digression. In addition, while maintaining the original order of the numbered verses the text has been paragraphed for a group of consecutive verses dealing with the topic under discussion providing headings and sub-headings to the paragraphs thus making the text easily tractable, permitting a convenient back-reference for a given topic.
Dnyaneshwari is not a book just to be read and kept aside. It is a guide, loaded with eternal wisdom, to be read over and over again - and each reading brings out an entirely fresh take on life.

Description:
Ashtavakra Says: • You are not the body which is composed of the five elements. You are that Consciousness which has provided the inert body with the sentience that makes the senses function I regard to their objects. It is sentience which makes the psychosomatic apparatus work as a unit. • Anticipating the query from his intelligent disciple, the guru tells him further, “You” are not the physical organism but Consciousness which works not as someone in charge of the operations of the physical organism but merely as the witness of the operations.
• You have wrongly identified yourself as the individual, as the doer of all actions that take place through the physical organism, and thereby unnecessarily assume the responsibility for the actions which take place, and thus assume the bondage from which you are seeking liberation.
• The witness cannot be the doer, and you are therefore not the doer. With this understanding, you can detach yourself from the wrong identification with the body. And when you do this, you will automatically assume your true position as the witness and remain relaxed (because there is not the tension of responsibility for the actions) in consciousness, as consciousness.
• The state of being disidentified from the body is the state of witnessing (when the individual “me” is not present). And this state of detached witnessing is indeed the state of liberation. This is what the Self-realized guru means when he says that when you remain relaxed in Consciousness (without identification with the body), the state of liberation is sudden and immediate.
The words “remain relaxed in Consciousness” from the very basis of the Ashtavakra teaching.

Description:
Order flows from consistent laws. Our understanding of our universe is changing, but Reality behind it is unchanged. Einstein’s relativity amended Newtonian determinism, and was in turn amended by quantum mechanics. Einstein saw a harmonious advance in knowledge, and said, “God does not play dice”; but Stephen Hawking later saw a radical departure, and said, “God is a gambler”.
This author, a deep student of philosophy with a moderate background of science, sees in these conflicting conclusions the inevitable distortion when “the relative” is projected on to “the Absolute.” Therefore he says, “Do not worry about God. He is not a visiting player like you and me, but the absolute owner of the casino. When He plays, His ieft hand picks up what His right hand loses, His status remains unaltered. We had better be looking out for ourselves.” The serious point made is that the Absolute includes and exceeds the time-space-causation frame of relativity, and these parameters cannot cross the border.
The limitations must be clearly understood.
“Time” of physics is enough to study kinetic processes but not to locate the creative potential. That requires “time” of our conscious awareness. But bio-science mistakes consciousness to be a product of brain-cells. In truth, consciousness is the energy, and brain is the equipment through which it manifests.
Thus TIME is the Achilles’ heel of physics, and MIND is the Achilles’ heel of biology. The name of Reality is Total Consciousness. It is eternal, Death was never born, and life never died.

Description:
We are constantly feeding and dressing and indulging our bodies, but how often do we nourish our soul? Shwetaashwatara Upanishad, the rare gem amongst the Upanishads, teaches us just how to do that. Indeed, it is the priceless oyster in which the pearl of Vaidika philosophy glows with an ethereal light.
What is the cause of this Universe, that is obviously so beautifully ordered? Who is in control of it… since we definitely are not? From where have we arisen? What are we doing here? What is our goal? These are the eternal questions the Upanishad asks. It answers them by scientifically eliminating various possibilities. The final answer, however, is hidden from the rational brain, and requires deep contemplation to ferret out.
We are blessed to have the answers served to us, as if on a platter, by the enlightened Yogi named Shwetaashwatara. While his grounded wisdom flings open the doors and windows of our minds, his devotion overwhelms us with its sheer intensity. The Shwetaashwatara Upanishad is indeed a gem to treasure!
