The exquisite brass sculpture of Lord Shiva depicts the Lord with all the characteristic signs, however, with some aesthetic references to his appearance. For example, the pile of hair tuft on the top of his head has a woman’s head popping out and releasing a stream of water from his hair. The woman represents the holy river Ganges who is held in the tuft of his hair by the Lord Shiva for public welfare, as per Hindu mythology. The idol depicts the lord holding the trident in left hand and the damroo in his right hand, unlike most other idols. Lord Shiva is seated on a platform etched with lotus petals and draped with tiger’s skin.
