In this nicely carved out figure of Lord Ganesha in Abhaya Mudra reveals a true sense of fearlessness. One of the most widely worshipped deities in Hinduism, he is the Remover of Obstacles and the Lord of Wisdom. Lord Ganesha’s popularity among the Hindus can be easily felt by the fact that he is known by as many as 108 names. Here the Lord is in Abhayamudra (gesture of fearlessness). It is a gesture of reassurance and safety, which dispels fear and accords divine protection and bliss in many Indian religions. The right hand is held upright, and the palm is facing outwards. This is one of the earliest mudrās found depicted on a number of Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain images. The Abhayamudrā represents protection, peace, benevolence and the dispelling of fear.
