Description
This macrocosmic representation of Lord Hanuman in brass is a fine instance of the creative excellence that Indian brass art is renowned for. As folklore has it, Lord Hanuman assumed this five-faced form during Ramayana war in order to kill Ahiravana, a sibling of demon Ravana. It is said that when Lord Hanuman was out to rescue Lord Rama and Lakshmana from the clutches of the demon Ahiravana, he was confronted with the impossible task of extinguishing five burning lamps placed in different directions, all at the same time. Lord Hanuman assumed the “Panchmukha Virat Roop” or five faced body to accomplish the task, thus killing Ahiravana.
