One of the most popular deities in Hinduism, Lord Ganesha is worshiped for his wisdom, knowledge and sagacity. He is always invoked first before undertaking any ritual and that is why he is known as Agraganya. An excellent example of the ancient dhokra technique, the figure is sculpted through a laborious lost wax process associated with the tribal groups of northern India. A model is sculpted of clay and dried in the sun; it is then covered with beeswax and more clay, forming a mold. The piece is cast, cleaned and again dried in the sun. Finally, it is heated in the ground for five days and polished.
