One of the most widely revered gods in Hinduism, Lord Ganesha is called the Remover of Obstacles and the Lord of Wisdom. He is invoked first among all gods and is worshiped along with Goddess Lakshmi.

In this spectacular sculpture, the Lord Ganesha is standing revealing a deep sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. One of the most popular deities in Hinduism, Lord Ganesha is worshiped for his wisdom, knowledge and sagacity. He is always invoked first before undertaking any ritual and that is why he is known as Agraganya. An excellent example of the ancient dhokra technique, the figure is sculpted through a laborious lost wax process associated with the tribal groups of northern India. A model is sculpted of clay and dried in the sun; it is then covered with beeswax and more clay, forming a mold. The piece is cast, cleaned and again dried in the sun. Finally, it is heated in the ground for five days and polished.

Description
In this beautiful brass figure along with brass reconstituted turquoise (blue and indigo) and coral (red) are used to give more appeal to the statute of the Lord Ganesha, one of the most widely revered Hindu deities. His ears, tusk, headgear and prominent belly are painted well as the Lord is shown seated on a podium. In fact the Lord is so popular among the Hindus that he is known by as many as 108 names. Here the Lord is shown as Chaturbhuj (Four-armed lord). He is also the Bhupati (the lord of lords), Bhuvanpati (lord of the heaven), Buddhinath (God of wisdom) and also Buddhipriya (one who bestows of knowledge and intellect). He is also known as Lambodara one who has a big belly.

Avalokiteshvara symbolizes infinite compassion and holds a very important position in Mahayana Buddhism. The statue depicts Avalokiteshvara in his most popular form, one face, four arms and sits with his legs crossed. His first two hands hold a jewel, which symbolizes his own enlightenment. This mudra is indicating, I attained jewel-like great enlightenment through receiving blessings from my Spiritual Guide Amitabha. His second left hand holds a white lotus flower. A lotus grows in the mud at the bottom of a lake, but its flowers bloom on the surface of the water, completely free from the stains of mud. By holding a lotus flower Avalokiteshvara is showing that, because he attained enlightenment, he is free from all obstacles and has a completely pure body, speech, and mind. His second right hand holds a crystal mala, symbolizing that he can free all living beings from samsara and lead them to liberation. Even though Avalokiteshvara is an enlightened being, he still shows respect to his Spiritual Guide.

About the Author

According to Time magazine, Che Guevara was one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. The revolutionary, anti-Imperialist ideals he lived and died for now appeal to a new generation of 21st-century men and women. Che Guevara: A Biography provides an introduction to the famous revolutionary leader and reveals how his early life prepared him for leadership in the Cuban Revolution. It also explores his revolutionary activities in Africa and Bolivia, as well as the circumstances surrounding his tragic death on October 9, 1967. The book includes original information on the 1997 discovery of the hidden remains of his body and on the celebration of his life and ideals by the socialist regime in Cuba. It also looks at the reasons why leftist political leaders, movements and governments in Latin America and the Caribbean still pay homage to this charismatic man.

Description
The beautiful figure of Chenrezig Lokeshvara is nicely carved out of brass in a most intricate manner. Avalokiteśvara in Sanskrit, "Lord who looks down" and is a bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. This bodhisattva is variably depicted and described and is portrayed in different cultures as either female or male. In Chinese Buddhism, Avalokiteśvara has become the somewhat different female figure Guanyin. In Cambodia, he appears as Lokeśvara.
Chenrezig is known as the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas, the Bodhisattva of Compassion in the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon of enlightened beings. Avalokiteshvara is the earthly manifestation of the self-born, eternal Buddha, Amitabha. He guards this world in the interval between the historical Sakyamuni Buddha, and the next Buddha of the Future Maitreya.
Legends say that once Chenrezig made a vow that he would not rest until he had liberated all the beings in all the realms of suffering. After working diligently at this task for a very long time, he realized the immense number of miserable beings yet to be saved. Seeing this, he became despondent and his head split into thousands of pieces. Amitabha Buddha put the pieces back together as a body with very many arms and many heads, so that Chenrezig could work with myriad beings all at the same time. Sometimes Chenrezig is visualized with eleven heads, and a thousand arms fanned out around him.
Chenrezig is known by different names in different lands: as Avalokiteshvara in the ancient Sanskrit language of India, as Kuan-yin in China, as Kannon in Japan. As Chenrezig, he is considered the patron Bodhisattva of Tibet, and his meditation is practiced in all the great lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. The beloved king Songtsen Gampo was believed to be an emanation of Chenrezig, and some of the most respected meditation masters (lamas), like the Dalai Lamas and Karmapas, who are considered living Buddhas, are also believed to be emanations of Chenrezig.
