Description:
This book encapsulates the Advaita Vedanta teachings of Ramesh S. Balsekar. The first part-Gentle Hammer-features a series of aphorisms, each of which sums up one element of his teaching. Once the seeker’s ego has been weakened by this gentle but persistent hammering, the Friendly Sword is ready to finish the job.
This second part consists of Ramesh’s answers to 24 key questions put to him by the editor, Madhukar Thompson, at a seminar given in the idyllic surroundings of Kovalam Beach, Kerala, India.
The third part-Silent Arrow-is a reprint of “The Search for God-Truth-Reality,” an article that Ramesh contributed to “The Mountain Path,” a bi-yearly magazine published by the Sri Ramanashram. In this article, Ramesh manages to condense his entire teaching into a few pages. It is written with such precision and profound insight that, while reading it, the reader is led to experience silence-the highest form of teaching. The pithy aphorisms, the brevity of the question-and-answer exreacts and the zen-like clarity of the article make this book an ideal introduction to Ramesh’s teaching.

The beautiful Madhubani painting depicts the Mother Goddess Durga riding Her vehicle Lion. On her eight hands, the gentle goddess is holding eight different weapons. Madhubani painting has been done traditionally by the women of villages around the present town of Madhubani and other areas of Mithila. The painting was traditionally done on freshly plastered mud wall of huts, but now it is also done on cloth, hand-made paper and canvas.

Kali is the fearful and ferocious form of the mother goddess Durga. As the legend says, in one of her the battles with the evil forces, Kali was so much involved in the killing spree that she began destroying everything in sight. To stop her, Lord Shiva threw himself under her feet. Awestruck, Kali stuck out her tongue in astonishment, and put an end to her homicidal rampage. So the common image of Kali shows her in her mêlée mood, standing with one foot on Shiva's chest, with her enormous tongue stuck out. The artist has chiseled out the heavily adorned image of the Kali with minute details.
Kali is often represented with the fiercest features. She has four arms, with a sword in one hand and the head of a demon in another. The other two hands bless her worshippers, and say, "fear not"! She has two dead heads for her earrings, a string of skulls as necklace, and a girdle made of human hands as her clothing. Her tongue protrudes from her mouth, her eyes are red, and her face and breasts are sullied with blood. She stands with one foot on the thigh, and another on the chest of her husband, Shiva.
Her black complexion symbolizes her all-embracing and transcendental nature. Her nudity is primeval, fundamental, and transparent like Nature — the earth, sea, and sky. Kali is free from the illusory covering, for she is beyond the all maya or "false consciousness." Kali's garland of fifty human heads that stands for the fifty letters in the Sanskrit alphabet, symbolizes infinite knowledge.
Her girdle of severed human hands signifies work and liberation from the cycle of karma. Her white teeth show her inner purity, and her red lolling tongue indicates her

Description
Goddess Saraswati is also known as Veenapani named after the musical instrument held by her. The mother of Veda and spouse of earth’s creator Brahma, she is also known as the goddess of sound and speech. She rides on a peacock and holds mala and palm leaf’s roll. She is also worshipped in other religions but is pronounced with different names. In Buddhism, mother Saraswati is called as Vajra-Saraswati and in Japan Dai-Ben-Zai-Ten or Benten.
The spectacular brass figure of the goddess Saraswati, the goddess of Learning is given a refine and detail treatment. One of the most worshipped goddesses in Hinduism, the goddess is worshipped by students and musicians alike. She is considered the goddess of learning, speech and wisdom. The goddess is depicted as a beautiful, yellow-skinned woman dressed in pure white often seated on a white lotus, which symbolizes that she is founded in the experience of the Absolute Truth. In other words, she not only has the knowledge but also the experience of the Highest Reality. She is mainly associated with the color white, which signifies the purity of true knowledge. She is normally shown to have four arms, which represent the four aspects of human personality in learning: mind, intellect, alertness, and ego. Alternatively, these four arms also represent the four Vedas, the primary sacred books for Hindus. The veena, a musical instrument that represents her perfection of all arts and sciences. Saraswati is also associated with anuraga, the love for and rhythm of music, which represents all emotions and feelings expressed in speech or music. It is believed that children born with that name will prove to be very lucky in their studies. A white swan is also located next to her feet. The sacred swan, if offered a mixture of milk and water, is said to be able to drink the milk alone. The swan thus symbolizes discrimination between the good and the bad or the eternal and the evanescent. Due to her association with the swan, Goddess Saraswati is also referred to as Hamsa-vahini, which means "she who has a swan as her vehicle".
