DESCRIPTION:
Vikrant Pande and Neelesh Kulkarni's quest to retrace the trail of Rama's fabled travels during his years in exile began with their trying to locate Chitrakoot on the map and realizing that they had little idea where it might be. Curious about the places mentioned in the Ramayana, they set off on a journey of their own, following Rama's route from Ayodhya to the Dandakaranya forest and Panchavati (near Nashik) and on to Kishkindhya (close to Hampi), Rameshwaram and Sri Lanka.Along the way they would discover how closely the narrative of the Ramayana is linked to local folklore, and how the stories of the Ramayana and the moral framework that binds them together still speaks to the people who live in the land across which Rama, Sita and Lakshman made their journey. For the armchair traveller as well as the enthusiast for epic tales, this is a wonderful book with which to revisit the world of the Ramayana.

Description
The spectacular Kalmakari painting depicts the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu, one of the Trimurty Gods in Hinduism, viz Varaha in a most refine and detail manner. Lord Vishnu is responsible for the preservation of the universe. He is omnipotent and omnipresent. Vishnu took the form of a wild boar - the Varaaha Avatara, dived into the ocean, and saved Bhoomi Devi who sank into the bottom of the ocean, with his massive snout.

The beautiful stone figure of Lord Patanjali is given a refine and detail treatment with some exquisite carvings on it. Lord Patanjali, who is considered an incarnation of Adishesha, is shown praying with His folded hands. The serpentine coils around His head and the beautiful headgear are given some exquisite treatment. Patañjali is known to be an incarnation of Adi S'esha who is the first ego-expansion of Vishnu or Sankarshana. Sankarshana, the manifestation of Vishnu His primeval energies and opulences, is part of the so-called catur vyuha, the fourfold manifestation of Vishnu. Thus may Patañjali be considered as the one incarnation of God defending the ego of yoga.

The ten avataras namely, Matsya (as a fish), Kurm (as a tortoise), Varaha (a boar), Nara-Sing (as a man-lion), Vamana (dwarf), (Parasu-Rama), Rama Chandra,Balarama, Krishna and Kalki are beautifully painted in the Kalamkari painting with some beautiful lines and colours. It is believed in Hinduism that whenever there is chaos on Earth, Lord Vishnu takes the birth of any one of the above and safeguards His followers from the impending crises. The boundaries of the painting have been clearly marked.
Lord Vishnu, priservater of life on univerce took many incarnations to protect the earth,Painted here are two of them are Matsayavtar(fish form)and Koormavtar(turtal form)incarnations of the great Hindu Lord.
