      Description

The mother goddess Kali is being given a royal treatment in the beautiful Patachitra painting with some splendid depiction of colour pattern and outlines. An epitome of tremendous force and energy, the female goddess is wearing the garlands of human skulls and her black figure and the bulging lip show an element of awe and ferocity. The sleeping Shiva symbolizes ignorance as surrounds our life. She represents the darker side of human beings and worshipping her protects us from the evil forces.

This attractive addition to Mandala's bestselling mini-book series explores Hinduism's most enigmatic figure in all of her glory. A wide range of vivid illustrations, both traditional and contemporary, showcases the paradoxical and often shocking imagery of Kali, whose outrageous appearance and behavior shatter all social conventions. These intense tales recount Kali's origins as the shadow self of Durga, a goddess who appears in the world in order to save the terrified gods from the demons Sumbha and Nisumbha. Brandishing weapons of destruction and cackling madly, she annihilates an ever increasing number of miscreants who try her patience. She comes not only to restore balance within the universe, but also to help humanity cut through the bonds of illusion and attachment.

                      Kalidasa - Paperback Comic Book
                      Kalidasa - Paperback Comic Book
Kalidasa, the greatest poet of classical Sanskrit, is known only through his writings. His works tell us that he was probably a Brahmin and devotee of Shiva. Apart from this there are no clues to his personal life. Even the names of parents are not known, nor his place of birth. The mystery surrounding him has given rise to incredible legends about him, which are circulated even today.

Our script is based on one of these legends.

Kalidasa is the author of several great Sanstrit poetic works (or Mahakavyas) and plays for which he is famous. Malavikagnimitram, Ritusamhara, Abhijnana-Shakuntalam, Meghaduta and Raghuvamsha are some of his most brillaian works. These reveal that Kalidasa was a lover of nature and his descriptions suggest that he traveled widely. His poetry has the freshness and beauty of a mountain stream. He portrays women with tenderness. He exhibits a special love for the town of Ujjayini in his writings and he probably knew it well.

Scholars have agreed that though all of kalidasa’s works are brilliant, his play Abhijanana-Shakuntalam must be rated as his greatest work. Today, Kalidasa is regarded as one of the immortals in the world of Literature, taking his place beside Shakespeare and Goethe.

                      Kaliya Daman-Krishna Conquest Kalia
                      Kaliya Daman-Krishna Conquest Kalia

The beautiful image of the child Krishna dancing over the head of the serpent king Kaliya is being nicely sculpted out of brass in a most graceful manner. The story of Krishna, and Kaliya the serpent is very well known. Kaliya, a naga (a serpent), was living in Yamuna and its banks and had poisoned its waters and also dried the forests nearby by the poison airs breathed by it. Once when Krishna’s friends drank water from the river, they fell unconscious. Krishna jumped into the water to kill the serpent. He was coiled around by Kaliya, the serpent king and he lay at the bottom of the river. But realizing his divine powers, Lord Krishna uncoiled himself from the serpent and danced on the head of the serpent and wanted to kill it. But on imploration from the wives of Kaliya, he left it alone and asked them all to leave the shores of Yamuna. So they left and Yamuna and its shored regained their normal form. This feat is termed as Kaliya-Daman. The serpent and its heads are being nicely carved out.

                      Kalpa Sutra of Bhadrabahu Svami
                      Kalpa Sutra of Bhadrabahu Svami

"A translation of the Kalpa Sutra into English needs justification, since during the past few years several such translations have appeared int he market. The pioneering work by Hermann Jacobi remains a classic to this day, while in recent translations the writers have exercised a freedom which is hardly justified. The present translation not only claims complete authenticity, but, like the translation of a few other Jaina texts by the same writer, it also strictly follows the prakrit text in prose as well as verse so that the reader through the English medium may enjoy a taste of the original.

Bhadrabåhuís Kalpa Sµutra is the earliest account of the life of the T?rtha?karas, the 24th, 23rd, 22nd and 1stósince the arrangement of the book moves back in time. The present work should, in the fitness of things, occupy a unique position. Scholars have divided this work into three Parts, viz., Tirthankaras, Church Leaders and Parjusana. For the present translation, however, it has been divided into seven Parts as follows: Bhagavan Mahavira, Arhat Parsva, Arhat Aristanemi, Twenty other Tirthankaras, Arhat Rsabha, Church Leaders and Parjusana.

Among the Agamic texts, Kalpa Sutra belongs to a group called Cheda Sµutra. Going by the contents of these texts, it would appear that they contain rules about personal behaviour and organisational discipline to be observed by the monks. Among the Cheda Sµutras, three names usually go together which are Dasa-kappa-vavahara and they are compiled into one text called Sruta Skandha. Kalpa Sutra is the eighth chapter of the Dasa text. With certain sects of the Jainas, the reading of the Kalpa Sutra during the Parjusana is a must which has contributed to the great spiritual significance of this work."

"Ideally, Kama should have been happy. But what he felt was apprehension and there was no shaking the feeling that he had been tempered with fire to prepare him solely for what lay ahead." Kamadeva, the charming wielder of the sugarcane bow and the flowertipped arrows, born out of the wellspring of Brahma's latent passion, has for long remained an enigma. This enthralling story of the God of Desire explores his many wondrous adventures, as well as his heady romance with Rati, his chief consort. Best friends with Indra, the King of the Gods, tutor to the Apsaras in the art of lovemaking, Kamadeva lives a dream life in the magnificent Kingdom of Amaravathiuntil danger strikes when he incurs the wrath of Shiva because of a preordained curse. Follow Kama as he hurtles towards his destiny and the Destroyer's dreaded third eye. Find out if he will rise from the ashes to reign supreme as the King of Hearts or if he will be doomed to spend an eternity as Ananga the bodiless one.
