This is a collection of 7 stories. It was published after a gap of 56 years. Many thought that Khandekar has lost his ability to write. Some criticized him. But he was used to everything. He knew the limits of all the commentators. He was writing during these 56 years but he could never complete it. Through half written articles he used to think about the values and then used to stop writing the article. He shifted to Kolhapur during this period. While in Kolhapur he missed the seashore and the hills at Shiroda. Apart from this he had started writing scripts for movies. Then started the 2nd world war which killed the humanity. After a period of 5 years he wrote his first story "Maunvrat`. He started writing again but he was not satisfied with the new social pattern. He believed that socialism will bring happiness but for that the old pattern of socialism should be demolished completely. He tried to search for the new and virtues which would provide healthy atmosphere to everybody. He tried to attempt this through his stories included in this collection.

About Author:

John A. Grimes received his B.A. in Religion from the University of California at Santa Barbara and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Madras in Indian philosophy. He has taught at universities in India, Canada, Singapore, and the United States. His book publications include: The Vivekacudamani: Sankaras Crown Jewel of Discrimination; A Concise Dictionary of Indian Philosophy; Ganapati: Song of the Self; Problems and Perspectives in Religious Discourse: Advaita Vedanta Implications; Sapta Vidha Anupapatti: The Seven Great Untenables; and The Naiskarmyasiddhi of Suresvara: A Monograph. The text translated here is an historical find: an unknown commentary on the Yoga sutra-s of Patanjali by Sankara, the most eminent philospher of ancient India. Present indications are that it is likely to be authentic, which would date it about AD 700.

The great devotee of Lord Ramchandra, namely Hanuman was one of the most worshipped Gods in Hinduism. He is the symbol of strength, power and devotion. The figure shows a deep sense of devotion and piety. It contains some exquisite carvings and designs. It is believed that worshipping Lord Hanuman removes all our obstacles. And this is why he is called Sankat moc-han.

The beautiful image of Hanuman is given a royal and detail treatment in the Patachitra painting. The many headed Hanuman is shown trampling over the demons in Lanka, where he went in search of Sita Devi. The figure shows a fine treatment of pattern and colours. Derived from the Sanskrit words patta (a piece of cloth), chitra (painting or picture), Patachitra is a folk art form drawn on a piece of silk, cotton or any other fabric, portraying traditional motifs and imageries of religion and society.
