Description
This macrocosmic representation of Lord Hanuman in brass is a fine instance of the creative excellence that Indian brass art is renowned for. As folklore has it, Lord Hanuman assumed this five-faced form during Ramayana war in order to kill Ahiravana, a sibling of demon Ravana. It is said that when Lord Hanuman was out to rescue Lord Rama and Lakshmana from the clutches of the demon Ahiravana, he was confronted with the impossible task of extinguishing five burning lamps placed in different directions, all at the same time. Lord Hanuman assumed the “Panchmukha Virat Roop” or five faced body to accomplish the task, thus killing Ahiravana.

This omnipresent form of Lord Krishna as the master of the Universe is one of the most cherished forms for Indian painting. The Lord was manifest in this form before Lord Arjuna at the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Lord Krishna showed Arjuna His Virat rupa when Arjuna was reluctant to fight his kith and kin. In the Bhagavad Gita, part of the epic Mahabharata, there is a point in the discourse between Arjuna and Krishna wherein Arjuna asks the Lord for a vision of his true form. Krishna grants this vision, both glorious and terrifying, in which Arjuna sees the entire universe inside Krishna. This great form of Krishna is called virat-rupa (omnipresent or vast form). The hands of the godheads as well as their headgears have been beautifully painted.

The spectacular Patachitra painting of the Lord Krishna in His Virat rupa (Universal manifestation) is given a refine and minute treatment. Lord Krishna reveals His Universal manifestation to Arjun at the battlefield of Kurukshetra, when the latter was reluctant to fight against his kith and kin. Arjuna was awestruck to witness Lord Krishna’s universal manifestation, as the Lord was the center of universe.

The thousand names of Vishnu reiterate a single message: the Lord is everything, everywhere. His names evoke the qualities that elevate our lives: forgiveness, beauty, tenderness, compassion and love.
Every religion in the world worships their God with a different name. Words like ‘Holy, Merciful, Compassionate, Truth and the One’ appear in all these religions, emphasizing that however we worship, the Lord is one and the same.
In India, one of the most popular litanies is the thousand names of Vishnu. He is worshipped by millions in his incarnations as Rama and Krishna. Eknath Easwaran comments on a fraction of these names and what each one means in our daily lives. This is a book for daily inspiration, full of personal reminders of what it means to see God in the faces and events of everyday life.

The monocolor Batik painting of Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi is an of originality, uniqueness and fineness. Batik prints of West Bengal, Orissa and Tamil Nadu are known for their originality and are the art of creating images on the cotton cloth using wax resist method. Rice starch and wax resists were used for printing. A good sense of colour and patterns is the key for any Batik painter. Though the motifs used in batik are simple, knowledge of colour gradations and tack to remove wax finely are required. The Batik painters apply the wax resist system. The characteristic batik effect is created by cracking of wax on the lighter hues and seeping in of the darker colours though them. Though the process is bit tedious it gives the painting a special effect. Here the Vishnu and Lakshmi have been painted in an amorous posture along with some beautiful patters.
