DESCRIPTION:
“The grandest idea in the religion of the Vedanta is that we may reach the same goal by different paths; and these paths I have generalised into four, viz. those of work, love, psychology and knowledge. But you must, at the same time, remember that these divisions are not very marked and quite exclusive of each other. Each blends into the other. But according to the type which prevails, we name the divisions. It is not that you can find men who have no other faculty than that of work, nor that you can find men who are no more than devoted worshippers only, nor that there are men who have no more than mere knowledge. These divisions are made in accordance with the type or the tendency that may be seen to prevail in a man. We have found that, in the end, all these four paths converge and become one. All religions and all methods of work and worship lead us to one and the same goal.”

    DESCRIPTION:
The Theosophical manual by Annie Besant helps us understand Reincarnation as the law of necessity for human progression and perfection, and has been constantly gaining ground among the more thoughtful students of life and evolution. Reincarnation for a human is the modus operandi of the vast evolutionary journey. Reincarnation and Karma are the twin doctrine of hope and responsibility. The fundamental cause of Reincarnation, as of all manifestation, is the desire for active life, the thirst for sentient existence. A human, being self-conscious, may build up to do evil or may build up to do good by his or her own thoughts. The resistance of wrong thought and action, patient service to others, a scrupulous devotion to unselfish ends - these build up for the reincarnating human a brain which is the fit instrument for their increased manifestation, a brain in which good tendencies will find grooves ready for their easy working.

    Description

In this book children from England and the rest of Europe, the U.S.A, Lebanon, South Africa, Israel, India, Brazil, Sri Lanka and Turkey remember their past lives. Scientists - most notably Professor Ian Stevenson, Director of the Division of Personality Studies at the Health Sciences Center at the University of Virginia - report on how their stories are then followed up to verify that the childrens memories are correct. Especially convincing are the cases of children born with missing limbs who are able to describe exactly where and when they lost these limbs in a past life. They also often know precisely who their parents and relatives were and where they lived. When the childrens statements are subjected to scientific verification, they are invariably confirmed in every detail. Through these investigations, reincarnation is proved to be more than a belief or a philosophy, having been categorically proven through the statements of children. The scientific evidence, as presented in this book, shows reincarnation to be the truth and all religions and philosophies will have to swiftly encompass these ideas into their existing concepts to maintain any credibility. We will all be talking and thinking about rebirth as a fact of life. The concept of reincarnation belongs to the future and this is only the beginning. Trutz Hardo is the most well-known expert on reincarnation and regression therapy in Germany. He holds seminars in Europe, Australia and the U.S.A. He has appeared on several television programmes.

          DESCRIPTION:
Relativity: The Special and General Theory, in Einstein’s own words, is an exact insight into the theory of Relativity to those readers who, from a general scientific and philosophical point of view, are interested in the theory, but who are not conversant with the mathematical apparatus of theoretical physics. Written as a short paper in the beginning, this work was later published as a book which was originally written in German and first published in English in 1920. Einstein in his preface mentions that the main aim of the book was to take the concept of relativity even to people with no strong background in Physics. Combining Newton’s time and space entities of classical physics into one inseparable element of space-time continuum in his general relativity, Einstein gave the ultimate limit to the speed of light and its correlation with the concept of time and space in his special theory of relativity. The book is divided into three parts. In the first part, Einstein exquisitely elaborates on intricate concepts like coordinate systems, length contraction, time dilation, relativistic mass, Minkowski's Four-dimensional Space and most importantly talks about his exceptionally simple equation E=MC2, which completely changed the previously thought notions on mass, energy and their relationship with light. In the second part, revolutionary concept of general relativity is discussed in a way a common man could understand the anatomy of space and time. Explaining through simplified field equations, Einstein puts forth the beautiful idea of four dimensional space-time curvatures that laid the foundations for a century of scientific, specifically, astrophysical discoveries and explanations. In the third part Einstein gives a slight glimpse of his philosophical perspective towards the universe and the way physics defines the working manual of it. Here he considers the universe as a whole, and discusses the implications of relativity concepts in understanding the same. This book, even a century after it was published, is still the holy grail of theoretical physics and astrophysics.

          About the Author

Albert Einstein, a gentleman who belongs to the elite league of Newton, Tesla, Maxwell and considered to be the greatest scientist of 20th century. Born in Germany, and worked as a clerk in the patent office before revolutionizing the world of physics, Einstein with his incredible achievements in scientific world has become synonymous to the word genius. He provided the world, two of the most brilliant concepts of physics through his theories of relativity, and won the Noble Prize in Physics for his work on Photoelectric Effect, which eventually become the foundation stone for tremendous developments in electronic technologies and quantum theory. Einstein is not only celebrated as the greatest physicists of all the time but he was also a wonderful human being and philosopher. World War II and presence of Adolf Hitler in Germany forced him to stay in the US during the period, where he consistently tried hard to warn and evade the application of nuclear fission as a weapon of mass destruction. He collaborated and interacted with many extraordinary minds of his time contributing to the world of physics and humanity as a whole. His unmatched intellectual imagination collaged with his immense interest in music, philosophy and humanity makes him the greatest personality that scientific world and mankind have ever seen.

The Special and the General Theory

Albert Einstein–the father of modern physics proposed the theory of relativity. Even today, scientists find evidence supporting his theories while conducting research with advanced equipment.

He wrote this book “to give an exact insight into the theory of relativity to those readers who, from a general scientific and philosophical point of view, are interested in the theory, but who are not conversant with the mathematical apparatus of theoretical physics.”

While the theory of relativity enriched astronomy and physics during the 20th century, technology today is getting ahead because of Einstein. Relativity: The Special and the General Theory caters to those interested in understanding the conceptual basics of scientific and technological advancements that Einstein proposed, in simple terms.

Albert Einstein (1879–1955) was one of the greatest scientists of the 20th century. Born in Germany, Einstein worked as a clerk before stepping into the world of technology. He became an American citizen in 1940 and taught at Princeton University. His work on the photoelectric effect won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921, and later became the basis of tremendous developments in quantum theory and electronic technologies and the atomic age.

Relativity: The Special and the General Theory
Relativity: The Special and the General Theory

Along with quantum mechanics in the 1920s, Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity (1905) and General Theory of Relativity (1916) stand as the supreme achievements of twentieth-century physics.

In simplest terms, the theory of Relativity is an approach to the measurement and study of space and time. The theory assumes that findings are based upon the relation of the frame of reference to the objects measured. The Special Theory of Relativity is primarily concerned with electric and magnetic phenomena. The General Theory focuses on gravity—not as a force as Newton postulated—but as a curved field in the space-time continuum, created by the presence of mass.

Redesigned to present an easier reading, Relativity includes both explanatory illustrations and mathematical derivations of Einstein’s theories. This book brings out the great scientist’s remarkable ability to penetrate directly into the heart of the subject and yet remain lucid and accessible.

                                                  AUTHOR OF THE BOOK

Winning the 1941 Nobel Prize for Physics, Einstein is known for his famous Theory of Relativity. His theories have remarkably shaped the atomic age, especially during World War II. He died in 1955, leaving behind profound and far-reaching implications of his work.

                                                  About the Author

Regarded as the founder of modern physics, Albert Einstein was born in 1879, in Ulm, Kingdom of Württemberg, German Empire. He completed his Ph.D. from the University of Zürich in 1905 and published four papers in the scientific journal
named Annalen der Physik. These papers on photoelectric effect, Brownian motion, special relativity and mass-energy equivalence (E = mc2) were significant contributors to the foundation of modern physics. In the next few years, Einstein came to be recognized as a major scientist. He developed the general theory of relativity between 1907 and 1915. It was published in 1915. In 1916, Einstein published Relativity: The Special and the General Theory in German. Its first English translation was published in 1920. In 1921, Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics “for his services to Theoretical Physics and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect.” He published numerous scientific and non-scientific works. Einstein died on 18 April 1955, aged seventy-six, in Princeton, New Jersey.

The present work is primarily intended for students. These days are so much of deliberations on the necessity for educational reform, for reassessment of the educational policy of the Government. There is also a good deal of criticism about the conduct of the students and their so-called degradation. It does not serve any purpose in merely is caviling the students or bemoaning the falling standard of education.

With a positive attitude and right endeavor, every problem is capable of solution. The general quality of the students is basically unchanged. They only hunger for the right type of lead, a fulfillment of their sense of belonging, understanding on the part of the elders, and purposefulness in life. It is hoped that students and teachers will generally benefit by a study of this work.

                                                  THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

A legend of Wall Street shares the tricks of his trade!

Reminiscences of a Stock Operator is the bestselling story of Jesse Livermore or “Boy Plunger”—the famous American investor and security analyst who made his millions from the stock market. Edwin Lefèvre tracks the exploits of Livermore as he won and lost tens of millions of dollars playing the stock and commodities markets during the early 1900s.

With riveting accounts of Livermore’s experiences as one of the most influential speculators on Wall Street, the book is rich with trading wisdom and rules that Livermore imparts through Lefèvre. The book’s enduring appeal rests in Livermore’s view that the market is made up of people and the excesses of the market reflect mass psychology. According to him the mistakes of individuals are frequently the result of the inability to control fear and greed. Thus, the views and lessons of Livermore continue to be relevant to every new generation of investors and traders. This book is considered a classic in business writing.

The Swami's multifaceted personality, along with his deep insights into life and human nature, establish these reminiscences as a true spiritual treasury. Review

Swami Vivekananda once referred to Swami Brahmananda as a spiritual dynamo. These reminiscences related by Brahmachari Akshayachaitanya and freely translated by Swami Bhaskarananda clearly reveal the innumerable ways in which he radiated that spiritual power. His calm majestic personality is sweet, soothing, inspiring and enlightening. Though often lost in profound mystical moods, this man of God could be down-to-earth as well, dealing with day-to-day details of many centers of the Ramakrishna Order, expressing his sympathetic concern for devotees and, most importantly, showering his divine love on all. His deep insights into life and human nature touched the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to come into contact with him. It is said God has the nature of a child. Childlike himself, Swami Brahmananda was witty with an irrepressible sense of humor who delighted in playing practical jokes on many unsuspecting monks and devotees. These reminiscences are indeed a veritable spiritual feast for sincere seekers of God. --Swami Prabuddhananda, head of the Vedanta Society of Northern California

But when one reminisces ... about a spiritual giant of Swami Brahmananda s stature, it becomes an act of meditation. Swami Brahmananda, a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna and the first President of the Ramakrishna Order, has left behind a rich legacy of how to live a spiritual vibrant life. His lofty state of mind, practical wisdom and a deep love and sympathy for all those who came in touch with him, is a legend in the Ramakrishna tradition. Swami Bhaskarananda, the translator of the present volume, has taken great pains to provide a faithful and clear translation, with copious explanatory notes and a glossary. He has also added a short biographical sketch of Swami Brahmananda. ... Nothing could be of greater help in the contemporary world where the need for such books is keenly felt, but rarely met. --Publisher, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai

Two women from entirely different backgrounds, they share a bond that overcomes the barriers of nationality, race and religion. Both are exiled to a hill station, which is populated with provincial and prudish memsahibs, who adjust their recipes to compensate for the altitude and substitute ingredients from home. While Rachel's husband works at a psychiatric hospital in the plains, in Ranchi, she looks after their sons who attend a mission school in the hills. While editing a cookbook, Rachel begins to realize the contradictions within her community. She also discovers the seductive voice of Renuka's poetry ... Renuka, Stephen Alter's fourth novel, builds to a startling climax, while uncovering hidden truths about love, sexuality and passion.

Keya Raina is a Kashmiri scholar of exile, an insecure immigrant, who collects other people’s stories. Marked by the oppressive history of Kashmir, they meet in Berlin, the city of Cold War partitions, and begin a journey of discovery, which reveals to them the story of Shula Farid, the bohemian wife of a staid Bengali diplomat. Through their travels, these two young Kashmiris outside Kashmir find startling truths about themselves in the midst of unwitting identities and multiple belongings—the residue of shared human emotions.

It is a remarkable novel about divided lands and fortress continents, lines inked in blood and memory, and the absences they create in people’s lives and imaginations

Restless Waters of the Ichhamati is a celebration of flora and fauna, particularly of the profusion of commonly found plant life that flourishes in most regions of Bengal. The gaze of a slow-moving attentive river-farer brings into view glimpses of vibrant plant life, traces of human habitation and changes of sky and water in the course of seasons. These are signs, evoking the flow of time in which generations unknown have lived and those unborn will live along the Ichhamati’s banks as it wends its way through Jessore district towards the Bay of Bengal. Born of this tension between the ephemeral and the forever, the novel’s own riverine course dispenses with chapter breaks—a writer’s decision that the translation follows.

Pooler offers a captivating exploration of the emotional and psychological dimensions of shopping. For those in retailing and marketing, this guide to the fickle consumer's mindset offers concrete and practical advice on modern shopping behavior, along with important insights into the shopping psyche. Comprehending why people shop as they do is a daunting challenge for today's retailer. For example, why do people shop for bargain groceries yet purchase the latest luxury-model SUV? Why do people feel justified in splurging for Christmas, birthdaysor anniversaries, but suffer guilt from over-spending at other times of the year? Is clothes-shopping all about price and practicalityor is it more about emotional reward and psychological needs? Is the excitement in the quest or the acquisition? Why is there such a thing as a morning-after "urge to return" among certain shoppers, while others refuse to return an item even if it's flawed or doesn't fit? What drives shoppers in various situations? This book answers such questions, taking an incisive look at how shopping and shoppers have changed in recent years and provides valuable insights for retailers, advertisers, marketers and consumers.

These heroic followers of Siva-also called Lingayatas-are characterized by a unique combination of intense devotion and social reformation. The movement arose in the twelfth century under the charismatic leadership of Basava. Men and women from every backgroud, highcaste as well as untouchable, joined the experimental community of the Virasaivas. They has their own sacred literature in the form of short poems in the vernacular language of the region: Kannada.

Here each Vedic word, which at first sight appears cryptic and mysterious has been explained in lucid terms after analyzing it down to its root and sound, so that the real intention of the rsi who compiled the hymn is made clear. Those readers who are interested in the real ethos of our First Book of Knowledge on which is based our Hindu dharma and culture, will find this sample survey of One Hundred hymns most engrossing and helpful in understanding the whole ethos of the Vedas. To sum up it can be said that only two bhasyas dominate the domain of Vedic exegesis, one by Sayana and other by Dayananda. H.H. Wilson put his efforts to produce Sayana's Sanskrit Bhasya into English in an excellent way. So the author of present lines thought it imperative to include his translation for his edition of RV, so that the English readers will be able to acquaint themselves with the intent of Sayana's bhasya and thereby the literal intent of the RV.
