DESCRIPTION:
The magnificent monuments of Gulbarga, Bidar and Bijapur in northern Karnataka are manifestations of a vibrant culture that flourished under the rule of the Bahmani and Adil Shahi sultans during the 14th to 17th centuries. The wealth of these rulers derived from the lucrative trade routes that traversed the Deccan plateau, while the splendour of their courts owed much to an open immigration policy by which gifted individuals from other parts of India, as well as from the Middle East and Central Asia, were encouraged to settle.
Though the Bahmanis were supplanted partly by the Adil Shahis at the turn of the 16th century and the latter were annihilated by the Mughal invasion of the Deccan in the 1680s, their capital cities preserve many splendid buildings. These include the imposing fortresses of Gulbarga and Bidar, the grand audience halls and ornate residential apartments in Bidar and Bijapur, the mosques and Sufi shrines in Gulbarga and the beautifully decorated royal tombs on the outskirts of Bidar and Bijapur. For more adventurous travellers there are the abandoned ruins of Firuzabad and the decaying pleasure resort at Kumatgi. All these monuments and sites are described and profusely illustrated in this guidebook, the first ever to be published for this region.

An introduction briefly describes the historical and social background of Gupta art, and its development, and suggests some of its most salient characteristics. While Gupta is remarkably homogeneous in style, the Gupta dominion stretched across the whole of north India, and separate sections are devoted to the various regions. More detailed description of individual pieces, with other relevant information and bibliographical reference, are contained in the notes to the plates.

Description
Modern-day Gurgaon was Guru Dronacharya’s village, a gift from the Pandavas and Kauravas for training them in military arts. While the legends of the mythical village are woven around the warrior mystic, the Millennium City, as it stands today, owes its rapid growth to globalization, outsourcing and the BPO boom.
From swanky malls and skyscrapers to pot-hole-ridden roads where gleaming Mercs vie for space with rickety rickshaws; from voluptuous North Indian aunties and brawny local men to rotund Bengali mashimas; from designer stores and Starbucks coffee to roadside vans peddling chole bhature; Drona’s village is riddled with contradictions, both hilarious and poignant, irreverent and bittersweet. Gurgaon Diaries is a humorous peek at the workings of this modern-day village and how the Millennium City is a paradox in itself.

DESCRIPTION:

DESCRIPTION:
Just as Kirtan-Sadhana has been made the special Kali-Yuga Sadhana for quick God-vision, even so herein you have the New Yoga, a Yoga most eminently suitable for this age of doubt and scepticism, pride and egoism. It is Guru-Bhakti Yoga. This Yoga is marvellous. Its power is tremendous. Its efficacy is most unfailing. The true gloryof Guru-Bhakti is indescribable. It is the Yoga par excellence for this age, which makes God appear here before you in flesh and blood and move with you in this very life. The hard Rajasic ego is the arch enemy of the Sadhaka. Guru-Bhakti Yoga is the surest and best Sadhana to destroy arrogance and to dissolve the vicious ego. Just as a particular deadly germ can be annihilated only by a certain specific chemical germicide, even so, to destroy Avidya and Ahankara, this unique Guru Bhakti-Yoga is the peerless specific. They are the gravest ‘Mayacide’ and ‘egocide’. They become quite powerless and no longer afflict the fortunate soul who saturates himself with the spirit of Guru-Bhakti-Yoga. Blessed indeed is the man who earnestly takes to this Yoga; for he will obtain crowning success in all other Yogas. To him will accrue the choicest fruits of perfection in Karma, Bhakti, Dhyana and Jnana.
The qualification for taking to this Yoga is the simple trio of sincerity, faith and obedience. Be sincere in your aspirations for Perfection. Be not vague or half-hearted. Then have perfect faith in the one you have accepted as your Guru. Do not allow even so much as a shadow of doubt to approach you. When once you have reposed
absolute faith in him, then know that what he instructs you is indeed for your highest good. Therefore, obey his word implicitly. Follow his teachings to the letter. Be earnest in doing thus, and take my word: you will attain Perfection; I assure you emphatically.

DESCRIPTION:
Containing the biographies of lord dattatreya, (lord bramha, vishnu and mahesh) and his subsequent incarnations sripada sri vallabha and sri narasimha saraswati, this owkr clarifies several doubts on religious dogmas, rituals and doctrines through a conversation between the master and his disciple
The spectacular marble painting is given a respectable touch with a deep sense of gravity and piety. The bird on his hand is also given a refine touch. Guru Govind Singh was the tenth Guru (religious leader) of Sikhism. Born in Patna, Bihar, he became a Guru at the age of nine years, succeeding his father Guru Tegh Bahadur. He was the leader of the Sikh faith, a warrior, a poet, and a philosopher, all rolled in one. His establishment of the Khalsa is considered as one of the most important events in the history of Sikhism. He fought as many as 20 defensive battles against the Mughals who were ruling from Delhi at that time. Guru Gobind Singh was the last human Sikh Guru; and declared the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism, as the next permanent Sikh Guru. Here his turban, beard, all are given a detail and serious touch.
The Mughal Empire founded in the early 16th century began to disintegrate towards the later years of the 17th century. Two people who hastened its end were shivaji along with his Marathas in the Deccan and Guru Gobind Singh and the Sikhs in northern India.
Guru Gobind Singh's short career was not marked by any spectacular achievement on the battlefield. His chief contribution was to convert a pacifist, passive and fatalist community of Punjabi Sikhs into a militant, aggressive and determined brotherhood of the Khalsa. He gave sikhism its five sacred symbols, including the unshorn hair and beard, which made the Sikh members of the one casteless family - the Singhs. He was the chief proponent of the Dharmayuddha philosophy - war for the sake of righteousness - to which he committed his four sons and his following. Guru Gobind Singh was the last of the ten Gurus and one of the greatest poets of the Punjabi language. The Qualities that distinguish the Sikhs of today can be traced back to the tradition started by Guru Gobind Singh
