    Description

The brass figure depicts Kuber, the god of wealth along with the Goddess of wealth and prosperity in a beautiful manner. He is the Lord of wealth and the god-king of the Yakshas. Kuber is regarded as the regent of the North (Dik-pala), and a protector of the world (Lokapala). He is the owner of the treasures of the world. Kuber is often depicted with a plump body, adorned with jewels, and carrying a money-pot and a club. The scriptures describe that Kubera once ruled Lanka, but was overthrown by his demon stepbrother Ravana, later settling in the city of Alaka in the Himalayas. He is described as having three legs, only eight teeth, one eye, and being adorned with jewels. He is sometimes depicted riding a man. Mata Lakshmi is the repository of wealth and prosperity and praying her makes one rich and prosperous, so believe the devotees.

    Kularnava Tantra
    Kularnava Tantra

Tantra is a major development in the evolution of Indian spiritual thought inasmuch as it represents a determined attempt at reconciling the apparent points of conflict among the different schools of philosophy that came up after the age of the Epics. Tantra seeks to synthesize the monism of the Advaita with dualism of the Samkhya, enrich Jnana with the rasa of Bhakti, join Nature to her Lord in the
person of the human individual, harmonize the claims of the Spirit with the rights of Matter.

The Kularnava is perhaps the foremost Tantra of the Kaula School and is constantly cited as an authority in Tantric literature. It is worthy of close study by those who would understand the tenets and practice of the tradition of which it is a Sastra.

The Introduction by Arthur Avalon gives a concise outline of the work.

Sri M.P. Pandit who is a keen student of the Tantras and Vedas has rendered the work in English in eleven chapters. The readings are free translations, with annotations where necessary, omitting technical details but preserving the spirit and essential import of the original in his characteristically lucid style.

The complete text is given in Devanagari for those who wish to study the book in the original Sanskrit.

The Kularnava prescribes the modes of preparation for the high quest; it draws upon ethics, religion, philosophy, yoga to elevate human life gradually to the level of godly life. It comprehends the multiple personality of man and provides for the healthy growth of his mental faculties, purification of his physical faculties through ritual, japa, mantra and upasana. Who is fit for the path of Tantra? Who is competent to guide the novice on the double - edged razor path? What is the responsibility of a Guru to a disciple? These and other relevant questions are raised and answered in a satisfying manner.

                                                    Kumarasambhava of Kalidasa, CANTOS I-VIII
                                                    Kumarasambhava of Kalidasa, CANTOS I-VIII
"The most important Kavyas of Kalidasa-Raghuvamsa and Kumarasambhava-are distinguished by their independence of treatment and excellence of poetical beauty. The Kumarasambhava of Kalidasa varies from the loveliness of spring and the delights of married love to the utter desolation induced by the death of beloved. The subject is unquestionably a daring one: the events which bring about the marriage of Lord Siva to Uma and the birth of Skanda.

The prose order of each sloka has been given in the commentary by using bold type, the words not actually repeated by Mallinatha being enclosed within rectangular brackets. The notes explain allusions, grammatical peculiarities not noticed by Mallinatha, copious extracts from other commentaries being given for this purpose. The book includes text, the commentary of Mallinatha, a literal English translation, notes and introduction.

The hero of this poem is a divine being, and one of the Dhirodatta class. The prevailing sentiments is Sringara, Karuna and Santa, though not very prominent, being accessories to it. The 3rd and the 5th Cantos are a good illustration of Vipralambha, the 4th that of Karuna, the 7th of Vivaha, and the 8th of Sambhoga. The subject of each following canto is hinted at the end of each precedding one.
                                                    "

                                                    Kumarasambhavam
                                                    Kumarasambhavam
Kumarasambhavam celebrates the love story of Siva and Parvati, whose passionate union results in the birth of their son, the young god Kumara. Beginning with a luminous description of the birth of Parvati, the poem proceeds in perfectly pitched sensuous detail through her courtship with Siva until the night of their wedding. It plays out their tale on the immense scale of supreme divinity, wherein the gods are viewed both as lovers and as cosmic principles. Composed in eight scintillating cantos, Kumarasambhavam continues to enchant readers centuries after it was first written. Hank Heifetz's sparkling translation brings to life the heady eroticism and sumptuous imagery of the original.
