    DESCRIPTION:

                            DESCRIPTION:

The religious life is a life of love and understanding, serving to unite all people and all beings in one Whole, not to divide. In this brilliant series of lectures, Annie Besant , former President of The Theosophical Society (1907- 33), delves into the world's seven great religions, to bring out the role of the religions in uniting and elevating the world.

Vasubandhu, one of the most famous Mahayana Buddhist Philosophers, wrote works on a vast variety of subjects. This collection of translations includes the Vada-Vidhi, a work on logic; the Panca-skandhaka-prakarana, which deals with the 'aggregates' making up 'personality'; the Karmasiddhi-prakarana, which in explaining psychic continuity, also attacks many features of earlier Buddhist Psychology; the famous Vimsatika and Trimsika, which take Buddhist psychology into hitherto unexplored areas; the Madhyanta-Vibhaga-bhasya, one of the most profound books for Mahayana realization; and the Tri-svabhava-nirdesa which shows a way for ridding consciousness of ensnaring mental constructions. A glossary of key words is included, as are the texts of those works which survive in Sanskrit. Each translation is prefaced by an explanatory introduction and is followed by notes. These include also references to other Indian philosophical systems and occasional comparisons with modern Western psychology systems, particularly where the latter seem inadequate in comparison with Vasubandhu's Yogacara.

Images of Shiva of great variety and impressive beauty are countless all over India. To improve our understanding of such a rich and elevated subject, the sources are the Sanskrit texts of Epics, Puranas and Agamas. The present book gives a clear presentation of Shavism through a survey and an erudite reading of this vast literature. The Agamas are the key to the knowledge of temple organization and rituals, the description of which is a unique and original contribution of this work.

His view of Shaivism is thus based on the ancient tradition of ritualistic performance and literary composition, founded on his advanced erudition, intelligently directed, rooted in his own experience of religious practice as a brahmana follower of the faith. This is Shaivism seen from outside and inside, a picture representing authentically the knowledge and the religious fcelinas of millions of worshippers in this modern world.

In one story after another, numbering into thousands by the time she was done, she examined the imprisonment of the women within their homes and their responses to the power play, pressures and hypocrisies lying beneath the surface of the apparent solidity of the middle-class urban family. Nobody has written as relentlessly, with as much insight and yet with as light a touch, of the darkness of both the interior and the behavioural life within the four walls of the home. Over more than 70 years of a writing career, she created an extraordinary oeuvre, whose depths will be mined for generations.Twenty-one of Ashapurna Debi’s most shocking stories, cherry-picked from over a thousand, have been brought together in this collection. Each of them unravels an unexpected, even dreadful, side to the personalities of the women who feature in them. In every story, a deceptively quiet but potentially explosive act of revolt takes place – or comes close to taking place. Far from the sweet and submissive stereotype of  wife/mother/daughter/woman of the house that familial structures have enforced, it is the rebellious side of the woman, often forced to emerge through cruelty, viciousness and even hatred, that stands revealed. these are scandalous stories, each one of them.

As an expatriate worker she always endeavoured to understand the diverse cultures she felt privileged to work and live amongst and would seek firsthand experience in their cultural and spiritual practices. Her many enriching experiences over the years led her to a rural spot in Jharkand, India where she met her guru Swami Swami Satyasangananda Saraswati who s story she had the great honour to write about in this book.

Eckhart Tolle is not aligned with any particular religion but does what all the great masters have done: shows that the way, the truth, and the light already exist within each human being. There is no need to look elsewhere. During February March 2002, Eckhart traveled to India to enlighten people on the spiritual path through a series of talks in Chennai and Mumbai, and an eight day Spiritual Retreat held in Rishikesh. The Indian edition of The Power of Now, already in its twentieth reprint, has sold over two million copies. The Gujarati translation of this book will spread his teaching to an even wider audience. At the heart of this book, which has already been translated into almost all the major languages of the world, is Eckhart’s own story of early despair that culminated in a life transforming experience of enlightenment at the age of twenty nine. He emerged to share insights on the perils of the mind, the power of the present, and the accessibility of one’s true nature.

Shakti: Power in the Conceptual Structure of Karimpur Religion adds to the growing literature about the village Karimpur, first made famous by William and Charlotta Wiser (The Hindu Jajmani System and Behind Mud Walls). In this book, village beliefs about the nature of ritual and the organization of the pantheon, as expressed in myth and song, are explored using structural and linguistic analysis. It is shown that the concept of power, Shakti, is critical to understanding the nature of the Hindu pantheon and that the gods, and thus the rituals directed to them, are ordered by their perceived powers. Hindu deities and humans are bound together in a mutual giving of boons and service, and humans are as necessary to the gods as are gods to humans. Finally, this mutual bonding is shown to carry over to human-human relationship, particularly those of the Jajmani system.

Later, Shakuntala went to his court,Dushyanta did not recognise her, owing to a curse placed on her by sage Durvasa.
