Description
Srimad Bhagavad Gita presents "The Sermons from the Illustrious Lord Krsna to Arjuna," compiled by the great ancient seer, Vyasa. Here is a rendering of Srimad Bhagavad Gita into English. While translating from Sanskrit into English, the author has spent about ten years in first realizing and then choosing the exact equivalent English words for translation so that the beauty, substance, meanings, dignity and grace of the original is not disturbed. Though the melody and magic of the verses is difficult to recapture in another medium, yet the author has tried his utmost to bring it in its best. To feel the dignity of phrase and the intensity of utterance, the author has given the text in Roman script so that those who know Sanskrit can enjoy its fullness while pondering over in its original, whereas others who do not know Sanskrit also get a fairly correct idea of the spirit of the poem. After putting up the text in Roman, it has been rearranged to facilitate the meaning of the verse. Then appear the word-for-word meaning and lastly the verse has been translated into English as exactly as possible so as not to deviate at all from its original.

DESCRIPTION:
This book contains thirty-two excerpts from lectures on Srimad-Bhagavatam given by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, who was the founder of Sri Caitanya Math and its branches, the Gaudiya Maths. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura was the most prominent preacher of Lord Caitanya's teachings in the early 20th century because he expertly refuted all false conclusions that came in the way of the philosophy established by Sri Rupa Gosvami. For Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, Srimad-Bhagavatam was the original and primary evidence for establishing all conclusive truths. He endorsed Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's philosophy, which had been accepted and preached by the six Gosvamis of Vrndavana. These explanations of Srimad-Bhagavatam were published in the weekly Gaudiya magazine during Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura's time. Later on, they were republished in the monthly Gaudiya magazine in 1964-65. Now, they have appeared in the form of this book. We hope that the readers will relish the preaching of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura found in this book and thus more firmly establish their convictions in Krishna consciousness.

Green like a newly broken piece of an emerald mountain with the red flowers of the pomegranate adorning its ears the child had raised his foot to his lips. It was sucking its toe with a beatific smile on its face.
Markandeya was swept near and was and sucked into the body of the child along with its breath inside. When he opened his eyes. Markandeya saw the Universe The small child small enough to lie on an Ashwantha leaf held inside it the entire Universe Yashoda was also granted this vision when Krishna opened his month. Description:
Atma-Siddhi, a 142 verse philosophical poem, is a dialogue between the master and the pupil, on the subject of the soul and its journey through this world of material manifestations. Written in lyrical and lucid Gujarati, by the great Jain saint, Srimad Rajchandraji, it is as relevant today, as when it was first written more than a hundred years ago. A contemporary of Gandhiji, Srimadji was considered by the Mahatma to be his spiritual mentor. Attaining enlightenment at an unbelievably young age of 32 years, Srimadji, remains, even today, one of those iconic spiritual teachers, who balanced, with ease and grace, the life of a householder with that of a sage. The book is an interpretation that underscores the validity of Srimadji’s work, for young and old, the spiritually and not so spiritually inclined, in a manner that is interesting as well as insightful.

Description:
The Stavacintamani of Bhatta Narayana (late ninth-early tenth century ce) is a devotional stotra dedicated to the praise and worship of Shiva and his power (shakti), who is responsible for creation, maintenance, and dissolution. The stotra is an outpouring of the state of the mature mind of one who practised, experienced, internalized, and lived this system of monistic Shaivism. The quality of the verses and author’s personal fame suggest that Bhatta Narayana was not merely an ardent devotee, but a learned scholar, familiar with the esoteric secrets of the Shaiva philosophy and practice. Khsemaraja’s commentary is intended to reveal the esoteric meanings of the original devotional text while simultaneously integrating this work into the canon of non-dual Shaivism. His lucid commentarial style primarily focuses on translating Bhatta Narayana’s poetic devotional verses into the terminology of yogic states and experiences based on the Pratyabhina monistic philosophy. For example, in verse 4 he states: “The praise of the Lord is nothing but the realization that the Lord, who is identical with this universe—but appears in diversity — is in reality non-dual.”
In his Foreword to this book, Professor Rastogi observes “Marjanovic’s approach is constructive, at times comparative and felicity of language renders the overall presentation very lucid, more particularly some of his renderings of Sanskrit terms into English impress at the first sight. In his treatment of the philosophical and doctrinal issues he appears authentic and tries to articulate the inherent intend of Khsemaraja. This work fulfils a long-cherished need and serves as a welcome addition to the literature of Kashmir Shaivism in English. I am sure it will benefit not only students of Kashmir Shaivism but those of Indian spiritual traditions as well. With these words I commend this work to the readers for a rewarding trip to the Stavacintamani’s universe of devotion as understood and interpreted by Kshemaraja.”

Description:
Zen Publications of Mumbai has just published Stillpoint, a novel of war, peace, politics and Palestine, by Canadian writer, Colin Mallard. As the events of the last six weeks have shown, a book that addresses the Palestinian Israeli conflict, could hardly be more timely.
Mallard has previously written award winning non fiction books on Taoism, Zen and Advaita Vedanta. In 2013 Stillpoint was a finalist in the 'US Next Generation Indie Book Awards' in the category of general fiction over 80,000 words.
We all love stories and Mallards novel traces events beginning in the 1940s to the present. Although a work of fiction, it is based on historical events and written, in part, to help readers understand the underlying causes of the current conflict.
Stillpoint is a beguiling story of love and hope, peopled with unforgettable characters, vivid and haunting. It is a love story, a hymn to the great mystery of life.
To read Stillpoint is to be transported to another world, another time. Moved by the beauty of life and the ugliness, we find ourselves on a wild ride between love and hate, justice and injustice, sorrow and joy.
The novel is both historical and allegorical, some might even call it fantasy. It questions things we take for granted and assume to be true. It trusts the reader is more interested in the truth, the facts, than beliefs or ideology. Christ is reputed to have said, The truth will make you free. It is this idea thats at the heart of Stillpoint.
What can we do to ease the suffering in Palestine and replace conflict with peace? Mallard suggests only the truth, the facts, can bring it about. Truth, he says, must,' however, be valued more than beliefs and ideology.
How would we be, you and me, under circumstances the Palestinians and Israelis find themselves? Human nature is the same in us all and when we can answer that question for ourselves understanding takes place. The source of conflict, it turns out, is not geographical but personal-it might manifest as geographical but the source of conflict is always personal, in us, you and me. There are no exceptions.
Understanding, Mallard suggests, takes place when the mind is open, when we approach life from the perspective of not knowing, with a beginners or Zen mind. Such understanding, he suggests, brings action, including non-action that are both appropriate to the situation at hand and the nature of the person involved.'
From the perspective of Advaita it is clear there are not two. In this instance, the world is not divided into two groups of people, one good the other bad. We are the same! And when we understand ourselves we understand all human beings.
From the perspective of Advaita, no one is to blame, no one is right, no one is wrong.
What then is happening? People are simply doing the best they can under the circumstances and the powerful influence of their beliefs.
All is Maya until the illusion is seen for what it is - ignorance, lack of awareness. Just as awareness is the first step in understanding ourselves it is also the first step in understanding the current conflict and our relationship to it. Where ignorance once existed, understanding can replace it.

Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, popularly known as "Rajaji" or "C.R." was a great patriot, astute politician, incisive thinker, great visionary and one of the greatest statesmen of all time. He was a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, hailed as conscious-keeper of the Mahatma. As an ardent freedom-fighter, as Chief Minister of Madras, as Governor of West Bengal, as Home Minister of India and as the first Indian Governor-General of India, he rendered yeoman service to the nation and left an indelible impress on our contemporary life.
Rajaji was closely associated with Kulapati Munshiji and he was among the distinguished founder-members of the Bhavan. The Bhavan had the privilege of publishing 18 books (see page ii) by him so far, the copyright of which he gifted to the Bhavan.
All of Rajaji's works, especially on Marcus Aurelius, the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads are popular. In Ramayana and Mahabharata, he has displayed his inimitable flair for story-telling and applying the moral of stories to the needs of modern times.
Rajaji wrote not only in English but also in chaste Tamil, his mother-tongue. He was at his best as a short-story writer. The present book is a translation of some of his stories which open the window into the unsophisticated South Indian homes and ways of life. The reader will be fascinated by their gentle humour and unobtrusive didactic motif.
Rajaji passed away in 1972 at the age of 94.
Foreword
Most of these stories were written by Rajaji in Tamil at various times between 1925 and now and appeared in leading Tamil Journals. Some of these were translated and published in 1945 by the Hindustan Time under the title 'The Fatal Cart and Other Stories.'
The first sixteen stories published in this volume were translated into English by Rajaji son, C.R. Ramaswami who died eighteen years ago, and the rest by Prof. P. Sankaranarayanan, excepting Nos. 29, 35, 36 and 37. Which were written in English by the distinguished author himself. To them all I tender my thanks.
Translation is a difficult and delicate task and generally the transmutation is form gold into lead. However, I believe, there is enough gold left in this volume because of the innate excellence of the original. Rajaji is indeed a born and inimitable story-teller.

From the Jacket: The eighteen major puranas are the Brahma, Padma, Visnu, Siva, Linga, Garuda, Narada, Bhagavata, Agni, Skanda, Bhavisya, Brahma-vaivarta, Markandeya, Vamana, Varaha, Matsya, Kurma and Brahmanda Puranas. The Brahma Purana consists of ten thousand verses, the Padma Purana of fifty-five thousand, Sri Visnu Purana of twenty-three thousand, the Siva Purana of twenty-four thousand and Srimad Bhagavatam of eighteen thousand. The Narada Purana has twenty-five thousand verses, the Markandeya Purana nine thousand, the Agni Purana fifteen thousand four hundred, the Bhavisya Purana fourteen thousand five hundred, the Brahma-vaivarta Purana eighteen thousand and the Linga Purana eleven thousand. The Varaha Purana contains twenty-four thousand verses, the Skanda Purana eighty-one thousand one hundred, the Vamana Purana ten thousand, the Kurma Purana seventeen thousand, the Matsya Purana fourteen thousand, the Garuda Purana nineteen thousand and the Brahmanda Purana twelve thousand. Thus the total number of verses in all the Puranas is four hundred thousand, Eighteen thousand of these, once again, belong to the beautiful Bhagavatam. It is known that of the eighteen major Puranas, six are for those in the mode of goodness, six are for those in the mode of passion, and six are for those in the mode of ignorance. Although there may be different opinions as to which puranas belong to which group, Srila Prabhupada writes as follows in a purport of Sri Caitanya-caritamrta: The Rg Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda, Atharva Veda, Mahabharata, Pancaratra and original Ramayana are all considered Vedic literature. The Puranas (such as the Brahma-vaivarta Purana, Naradiya Purana, Visnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana) are especially meant for Vaisnavas and are also Vedic literature.
Back of the Book: Sri Brahma-vaivarta Purana is one of the eighteen principal Puranas, as stated in the Twelfth Canto of the Bhagavatam: Sages expert in ancient histories have declared that the Puranas, according to their various characteristics, can be divided into eighteen major Puranas and eighteen secondary Puranas.
In Brahma-vaivarta Purana, many very interesting details of familiar stories are found that are not seen elsewhere. There are many stories that explain the circumstances leading up to well-known occurrences, as well as previous lives of well-known personalities, shedding light on how they came to be in that condition. There is also a description of the marriage of Radha and Krsna, performed by Brahma.
Purana consists of four parts-Brahma-khanda, Prakrti-khanda, Ganapati-khanda, and Krsna-janma-khanda. The Krsna-janma-khanda is the largest, comprising about half of the entire work. Although the Vrndavana pastimes are narrated in this khanda, they are briefly described in comparison with what is found in Srimad-Bhagavatam. There are interesting details not found elsewhere, however, including the previous lives of many prominent characters. This volume presents the Brahma-vaivarta Purana in story form, condensed so that the reader’s interest will be held.

The Brahma Purana consists of ten thousand verses, the Padma Purana of fifty-five thousand, Sri Visnu Purana of twenty-three thousand, the Siva Purana of Twenty-four thousand and Srimad-Bhagavatam of eighteen thousand. The Narada Purana has twenty-five thousand verses, the Markandeya Purana nine thousand, the Agni Purana fifteen thousand four hundred, the Bhavisya Purana fourteen thousand five hundred, the Brahma-vaivarta Purana eighteen thousand and the Linga Purana eleven thousand. The Varaha Purana contains twenty-four thousand verses, the Skanda Purana eighty-one thousand one hundred, the ‘Vamana Purana ten thousand, the Kurma Purana ten thousand, the Kurma Purana seventeen thousand, the Matsya Purana fourteen thousand, the Garuda Purana nineteen thousand and the Brahmanda Purana twelve thousand. Thus the total number of verses in all the Puranas is four hundred thousand. Eighteen thousand of these, once again, belong to the beautiful Bhagavatam.
It is known that of the eighteen major Puranas, six are for those in the mode of goodness, six are for those in the mode of passion, and six are for those in the mode of ignorance. Although there may be different opinions as to which Puranas belong to which group, Srila Prabhupada writes as follows in a purport of Sri Caitanya-caritamrta:
The Rg Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda, Atharva Veda, Mahabharata, Pancaratra and original Ramayana are all considered Vedic literature. The Puranas (such as the Brahma-vaivarta Purana, Naradiya Purana, Visnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana) are especially meant for Vaisnavas and are also Vedic literature.

The present book is an English translation of Mahipati's Marathi poem Bhakta-Vijaya which records the legends of Indian saints, irrespective of their difference in caste, community, creed, language and place of origin.
Thus we have the record of different saints - Yayadeva, Jnanadeva, Namadeva, Ramananda, Tulasidasa, Kabir, Suradasa, Narsi Mehta and Guru Nanakadeva. A lot of information is available on Ekanath-the greatest scholar-philosopher-saint-poet-cum-social reformer and the towering personalities Tukaram and Ramadasa. It also records the miraculous and fascinating legends of several saints, how they spread the Bhakti cult, how they struggled against discrimination between man and man and how they tried to uproot the malpractices which prevailed in the name of Religion in those days.
In this weighty volume two parts are contained with Appendices of words, names and index for ready reference.

DESCRIPTION:
Munshi Premchand is one of the most important writers of the Hindi-Urdu canon in India. His prolific writing contributed largely to shape the genre of short stories as we know it in India. His range and diversity were limitless as he tackled themes of romance and satire, gender politics and social inequality, with unmatched skill and compassion.
Premchand's wrote prolifically about life in the city in the India of his time . In fact, his fictional corpus, if read uncritically, would lend itself to an easy binary between country life and city life. This collection attempts to break away from the misconceptions to bring to light the nuance in his understanding of city life.
