Description

Seven lectures by the brilliant theoretical physicist have been compiled into this book to try to explain to the common man, the complex problems of mathematics and the question that has been gripped everyone all for centuries, the theory of existence.

Undeniably intelligent, witty and childlike in his explanations, the narrator describes every detail about the beginning of the universe. He describes what a theory that can state the initiation of everything would encompass.

Ideologies about the universe by Aristotle, Augustine, Hubble, Newton and Einstein have all been briefly introduced to the reader. Black holes and Big Bang has been explained in an unsophisticated manner for anyone to understand.

All these events and individual theories may be strung together to create a theory of the origin of everything and the author strongly believes that the origin might not necessarily be from a singular event. He advocates the idea of a multi-dimensional origin with a no-boundary condition to remain true to the theories of modern physics and quantum physics.

The book provides a clear view of the world through Stephen’s mind where he respectfully dismisses the belief that the Universe conforms by a supernatural and all-powerful entity.

                      The Thousand Faces of Night
What makes a dutiful daughter, wife, and mother? What makes a good Indian woman? Devi returns to Madras with an American degree, only to be sucked in by the old order of things—a demanding mother’s love, a suitable but hollow marriage, an unsuitable lover who offers a brief escape. But the women of the hoary past come back to claim Devi through myth and story, music and memory. They show her what it is to stay and endure what it is to break free and move on. Sita has been the ideal daughter-in-law, wife and mother. But now that she has arranged a marriage for her daughter she has to come to terms with an old dream of her own. Mayamma knows how to survive as the old family retainer, bending the way the wind blows. But, through Devi, she too can see a different life. A subtle and tender tale of women's lives in India, this award-winning novel is structured with the delicacy and precision of a piece of music. Fusing myth, tale and the real voices of different women, The Thousand Faces of Night brings alive the underworld of Indian women’s lives.

The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep
The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep
"If we cannot carry our practice into sleep," Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche writes, "If we lose ourselves every night, what chance do we have to be aware when death comes? Look to your experience of sleep to discover whether or not you are truly awake."

This book gives detailed instruction foundational practices done during the day. In the Tibetan tradition, the ability to dream lucidly is not an end in itself, rather it provides an additional context in which one can engage in advanced and effective practices to achieve liberation.

Dream yoga is followed by sleep yoga, also known as the yoga of clear light. It is a more advanced practice, similar to the most secret Tibetan practices. The goal is to remain aware during deep sleep when the gross conceptual mind and the operation of the senses cease. Most of us do not even consider this depth of awareness a possibility, yet it is well-known in Tibetan Buddhist and Bon spiritual traditions.

The result of these practices is greater happiness and freedom in both our waking and dreaming and dreaming states. The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep imparts powerful methods for progressing along the path to liberation.

Some teach us the value of honour while others tell us that might is not always right. We see a tiny rat outwitting a venomous serpent and then an old turtle saving his friends from a greedy eagle. Description:

Frithjof Schuon (1907-1998) is acclaimed as the greatest authority of the twentieth century on the subject of comparative religions. The Transcendent Unity of Religions is a testimony to life as a holistic and sacred phenomenon. Every religion can be likened to a ray of light, emanating from the Divine Source. To transcend religious differences, Schuon explains, we must explore the esoteric nature of the inward-turned spiritual path. On this journey, we can trace the brilliant ray of illumination back to the Divine Oneness that is the basis of all religions. "Superlative ... the most powerful statement of the grand, or better, primordial, tradition. It is original in incorporating what our age for the first time demands: that religion be treated in global terms."--Huston Smith

The Transcendental Non-Dualism of Trika Saivism
The Transcendental Non-Dualism of Trika Saivism

The basic principle of Kashmir Saivism is that consciousness alone is real, and that which is not consciousness has no reality of its own, but is contingent on account of its being the expression of consciousness. It accepts a priori that consciousness alone is real, whereas what we cognize or perceive is nothing but what comes out of and from consciousness. The source of this thinking lies in the fact that it is in and through consciousness that we are empowered to engage in the process of reflective thinking, and due to it we become aware of what we are. This personal awareness gives rise to such reasoning which compels us to think that, a part from the body, there is existing within us a thinking principle, namely, the self. It is the inner self which is identified with the absolute—and the Absolute is nothing but consciousness. Whatever we know or experience is because of consciousness. In the absence of consciousness, everything would be insentient, and there would prevail utter darkness of non-knowledge. It is in the context of the thinking that Kashmir Saivism has developed the philosophy of transcendental non-dualism that is theistically oriented, which maintains that the Absolute is none else than the core of myself. It is this self as the Absolute that expresses itself in and through the universe, which is to say that the phenomena are but the appearances of consciousness. Since everything is contained in consciousness, so nothing is different from consciousness. In this manner is established such a form of non-dualism that is both logical and experiential. For over 35 years, Osho spoke to international audiences of seekers, addressing their essential questions and concerns. The international press calls him “a 21st century Prophet” and “an Oracle of modern times.” his books and audio lectures are international bestsellers. Osho himself says that he is neither a Prophet nor a philosopher; he is simply sharing his own experience. The Sunday Times of London described him as “one of the 1000 makers of the 20th century” and American author Tom Robbins has called him “the most dangerous man since Jesus Christ” – both comments reflecting the profound influence of his revolutionary approach to the science of inner transformation. Spoken with authority, clarity, sharpness and humor, his insights address both the timeless and timely concerns that tend to escape our notice in the clamor and overload of daily life.

The Turbulent Years opens in the 1980s. Sanjay Gandhi is dead under unexpected, tragic circumstances; not many years later, Indira Gandhi is assassinated; Rajiv Gandhi, ‘the reluctant politician’, abruptly becomes India’s Prime Minister.

Pranab Mukherjee was witness to (and, sometimes, a participant in) the momentous events of the 1980s and the 1990s, a period that was indisputably the most turbulent in India’s post-Independence history. An insider, he sheds new light on every major political occurrence of the time—from Rajiv Gandhi’s ascendance as India’s Prime Minister to the emergence of P.V. Narasimha Rao as the leader of a nation; from Operation Blue Star to the Babri Masjid fiasco.

Equally, Mukherjee is candid about each of the professional crises that marked this period of his career—the rumours that he wanted to elbow aside Rajiv Gandhi for the top post; the possible reasons for his ouster from Rajiv’s Cabinet and, later, the party; and the allegation that he aided and abetted the Left by not imposing President’s rule in West Bengal and Tripura in the late 1980s.

The second volume of Mukherjee’s autobiography is not only an honest account of his years in power (and in the wilderness), but also a cogent analysis of the political and social turning points of a key period in the evolution of modern India.

                                                                  AUTHOR OF THE BOOK

Pranab Mukherjee assumed office as the President of India on 25 July 2012. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha five times from 1969, and twice to the Lok Sabha from 2004—a Member of Parliament for thirty-seven years. He has unparalleled experience in governance, with the rare distinction of being Minister for twenty-two years. He has served as Foreign, Defence, Commerce and Finance Minister, as also Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and, on several occasions, held charge of more than one portfolio.

A recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, Pranab Mukherjee’s intellectual and political prowess is widely admired. He has been long acclaimed for his role as a consensus builder on difficult national issues.

What if The World Waits too long... and Iran Develops Nuclear Weapons?

Tensions are rising in the Middle East. Iran’s president vows to annihilate the United States and Israel. Israel’s prime minister says someone must hit Iran’s nuclear sites “before it’s too late.” The American president warns against a pre-emptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities and says negotiations are the key to finding peace.

And amid it all, rumors are swirling throughout the region of a mysterious religious cleric claiming to be the Islamic messiah known as the Mahdi or the Twelfth Imam. Word of his miracles, healings, signs and wonders is spreading like wildfire.

CIA operative David Shirazi was born for this moment. He is recruited and sent into Tehran with one objective: use all means necessary to disrupt Iran’s nuclear weapons program, without leaving American fingerprints and without triggering an apocalyptic new war.

When Mahatma Gandhi roused millions in a peaceful revolution against colonial rule, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan seemed an unlikely man to enlist. Yet from the ruthless Pathan tradition in Indian's rugged North-West Frontier Province, Khan raised history's first nonviolent "army" of 100,00 men. Many cautioned Gandhi against involving in his nonviolent struggle these people with such a record of brutality. But under Khan's leadership the Pathans proved that it is often those who are capable of great violence who have the courage to stand unarmed against injustice.

Red Stevens has died, and the older members of his family receive their millions with greedy anticipation. But a different fate awaits young Jason, whom Stevens, his great-uncle, believes may be the last vestige of hope in the family. "Although to date your life seems to be a sorry excuse for anything I would call promising, there does seem to be a spark of something in you that I hope we can fan into a flame. For that reason, I am not making you an instant millionaire." What Stevens does give Jason leads to The Ultimate Gift. Young and old will take this timeless motivational story to heart.

A realized master of the Tantric Nath Lineage, Maharaja had a wife and four children. For many years, he supported himself and his family by selling cheap goods in a small booth on the streets outside his tenement. His life was a telling parable of the absolute non duality of being. The profound yet simple words of this extraordinary teacher are designed to jolt us into awareness of our original nature. Like the Zen masters of old, Nisargadatta's style is abrupt, provocative and immensely profound cutting to the core and wasting little effort on the trigger shifts in consciousness, just by gearing or even reading them. A study stream of Indians and Westerners, those fortunate enough to discover Maharaja during his lifetime, came to sit at his feet in the small loft where he received visitors. In the radiation of the sage Ramana Maharishi, he shared the highest truth of non duality in his own unique way, from the depths of his own realization. In this volume Nisargadatta provides advanced instructions for spiritual aspirants. The Ultimate medicine is not for those who like their spirituality watered down, but for serious students who will find herein powerful antidotes to unawareness.

He is the editor of a Nisargadatta trilogy, and the author of a number of books on what he describes as "human consciousness transformation." Powell now lives a busy life in La Jolla, California, with his loving wife, Gina.

Advaita Vedanta, the school or system founded by him, stresses the Advaita or nondualist approach to the problem of existence and ultimate reality, and has been the main current of thought in India for hundreds of years. Most of Sankara`s works are commentaries on other classics of Indian thought, like Upanisads, the Bhagavadgita, and the Brahmasutra. The Upadesasahasri, or "" A Thousand Teachings, ""here critically edited and translated into English, is, however, the only independent and non-commentary work that can safely be attributed to him; the other independent writings traditionally ascribed to him are all probably spurious.

In this ceremony the boy goes to an Acarya well-versed in the Vedas with a view to be initiated into one of the three twice-born classes. From the day the initiation ceremony takes place, the young celibate commits himself to a life of austerity and abstinence; he chooses to lead a life of austerity and abstinence; he chooses to lead a life rigorously disciplined by vows and disciplinary rules. This is an important samskara in the life of an orthodox Hindu. The book describes the ceremony, the Puja, the mantras to be recited and other relevant details in a scholarly treatment of the subject.

We live in an age far removed from the age of these great scholars. As a result, we find the texts of the Upanisads to be very difficult to comprehend. Now commentators come to our help. They elucidate the texts and make them

A good commentator should have three essential qualities. First, he should be well versed in all the original texts of the Upanisads. Second, he should have the skill to logically analyse the texts and successfully bring out their true import through the analysis. Third, he should be absolutely sincere in interpreting the texts. Generally speaking, the commentator is learned and skilful but not sincere in the work undertaken by him. Instead of elucidating the texts for the sake of making them intelligible he often uses elucidation as a means for getting support for his preconceived notions. As a result, he gives up the primary senses of the original words and puts into them his own personal ideas.

This study covers eight out of the twelve-Isa, Kena, Katha, Mundaka, Mandukya, Svetasvatara, Chandogya and Brhadaranyaka. Its aim is to prove how discrimination and reliance on the original texts are the real sources of help in reading the Upanisads. The help given by the commentator is acceptable to the extent he is faithful to the original texts. Otherwise it is not indispensable. Trustworthiness of a commentary is determined not by the large support received from scholars but solely by the measure of its fidelity to the original scripture.

The book The Upanishads is an translation of the old age Hindu religious texts and is meant for anyone exploring consciousness and spirituality. Thousands of years ago, Indian sages found the answers for some of the eternal questions of human mind, which they have passed on to the future generations through the books of Upanishads. Upanishads are guides for human beings and are said to have answers to all the questions that people have pertaining to the realization of one's own self. These books still have relevance to the modern world.

The author in this book has extracted some of the important concepts from the Upanishads and has made an attempt to introduce the readers to some spiritual aspects such as consciousness, self, death, knowledge, wisdom and joy in a detailed manner. The author's explanation of the concepts in his own language of wisdom and the way he connects the texts to the world of today's advanced science and technology make the book a lucid, relevant read. Though the original text of Upanishads are voluminous with complicated language, the author has tried to condense and simplify the major teachings of the book and has presented them in a readable manner.

The author Eknath Easwaran has successfully managed to present the discoveries of the sages of the Upanishads in a concise style in his book.
