Description
In the fourteen years of NDTV’s Walk The Talk Shekhar Gupta has interviewed more than 600 stellar guests—an outstanding feature for one of Indian TV news channel’s most respected shows is the wide diversity of its guests. These range from heads of states to national, regional and international politicians and public figures, from Indian and global film stars to Nobel Laureates, scientists, economists, sports stars (not limited to cricket), spiritual gurus, business tycoons, philanthropists and, of course, activists. This book focuses exclusively on political leaders and public figures.
Many of these conversations are path-breaking and some extremely rare. For example, leaders like Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao have never before engaged in freewheeling, recorded conversations in such detail. Others have broken new ground since—Narendra Modi, L.K. Advani, Pranab Mukherjee, Mayawati and even M. Karunanidhi. There are also global thought leaders and heads of state: David Cameron, Henry Kissinger and Pushp Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, among others. There is also the rarest of rare interviews with the former RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan.
It was challenging to choose just twenty-five political personalities and voices to feature in this selection. And one criterion has been to try and pick those conversations that mark political shifts and change. Hopefully, these will help provide an understanding of recent political history and how we have reached the point we are at today, in the words of these very significant and interesting people.
AUTHOR OF THE BOOK
Shekhar Gupta built his name, byline and reputation over three decades of seminal reporting from the political and social frontlines of a changing India for print publications. He added television to his portfolio at the peak of his career as the Editor-in-Chief of The Indian Express. Just as his print byline is today synonymous with unparalleled credibility, independence and influence, his work on TV—both commentary and interviewing—reflects the same attributes. A recipient of the Padma Bhushan in 2009, India’s third highest civilian honour, Gupta is the Founder Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of The Print, India’s newest media start-up. He also writes a widely acknowledged weekly column ‘National Interest’. While Gupta became a familiar face on NDTV early on as a talking head, Walk The Talk was his first regular TV show. Sure enough, it’s developed a style and tenor of its own. In times of noisy name-calling and finger pointing that mostly passes off for TV interviewing, it developed a new concept of intelligent, mature conversation, where the guest is shown respect. That this old-fashioned and contrarian method has proved to be robust, interesting and successful is evident in the fact that Walk The Talk has continued uninterrupted in its fourteenth year. Before turning entrepreneur and launching his media venture, The Print, Gupta worked for The Indian EXPRESS in two spells of six and nineteen years respectively, with a twelve-year stint at India Today magazine in between. A familiar face at significant public discussions and events and a sought-after public speaker, Gupta is the author of Assam: A Valley Divided (1984), India Redefines its Role (1995) and Anticipating India: The Best of National Interest (2014). Shekhar lives in Delhi and, yes, in real life as on Walk The Talk, you will almost always see him with his shirt-sleeves rolled up unless it is too cold to do so.

Will we make it? That's the question Kavitha and her cousin, Pallu, ask themselves as they trek through Himalayan pine forests and unforgiving mountains in Nepal and Tibet. Their goal: to reach Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. The two women walk to ancient monasteries, meditate on freezing slopes, dance on the foothills of Kailash, and confront death in the thin mountain air. In Kailash and Manasarovar, the holiest of Hindu and Buddhist sites, they struggle to reconcile their rationalist views with faith and the beloved myths of their upbringing. Remarkably, it is this journey that helps them discover the meaning of friendship. Walking in Clouds is a beautifully crafted memoir of a journey to far-away places and to the places within. It mixes lyrical, descriptive storytelling with stunning photographs to bring to life a unique travelogue.

The Path to Your Inner Warrior Goddess It’s no secret that women today are juggling a lot. With an increasing number of women joining the workforce, we are now busier than ever with partners, children, family and friends, often putting the needs of others ahead of our own. And if we feel overwhelmed by it all or fall short of perfection, many of us have learned to be our own worst critic rather than our own best friend. That's where finding our inner warrior goddess comes in. In Warrior Goddess Training, bestselling author HeatherAsh Amara provides the antidote to the flawed idea that you are not enough. Direct, honest, and unapologetic, Amara will show you how to release the layers of expectations to finally see yourself for the authentic, perceptive, perfect woman you really are. Drawing on the wisdom from Buddhism, the Toltec tradition, and ancient Earth-based goddess spirituality, the Warrior Goddess path includes personal stories, rituals, and exercises that will encourage and inspire you to become the true warrior goddess you are meant to be. “HeatherAsh Amara is your coach and impeccable teacher in the life-ceremony offered in this book.” — ANA FORREST, bestselling author of Fierce Medicine and founder of Forrest Yoga If you don't love and honor yourself with every fiber of your being, if you struggle with owning your power and passion, if you could use more joyful play and simple presence in your life, then it is time for an inner revolution. It is time to claim your Warrior Goddess energy. — from the book

There are the two boys of the title story, locked in their own world of fantasy and make-believe, reaching out to each other to survive the terrible prospect of fatherlessness. ‘House Hunting’ shows us the grim spectacle of a couple whose marriage is in its death throes, and whose search for a happy home is doomed; in another story a couple struggle to overcome the effects of a brutal rape. Elsewhere, a family therapist comes face to face with the dark secret of his childhood, and an American football star down on his luck makes his peace with his father. The collection culminates in a daring and wonderfully baroque horror story ‘In the Black Mill’, which chronicles the terrifying fate that befalls an archaeologist as he uncovers cannibalism and ritual sacrifice in a gloomy Pennsylvanian town. Serious in their subject matter, yet shot through with wit, humour and compassion, these nine short stories demonstrate Chabon’s ability to weave together comedy and tragedy with unforgettable results.

DESCRIPTION:
What Is Hinduism? provides one of the most provocative, engaging and detailed examinations of this oldest religious and spiritual tradition in the world. Followed by over a billion people, including a great majority in India, Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world. The teachings of Yoga and Vedanta are followed by millions in every continent. Enriched with a profound pluralistic view, Hinduism emphasizes that the Truth is One but has many paths. Yet, despite its universality, Hinduism remains the most misunderstood of the world's major religions, partly because of its antiquity and the vast extent of its teachings.Acknowledging the importance of the religion and its growing influence globally, David Frawley has addressed the prime teachings of Hinduism, its role in India, its place in the information age and has compiled an exhaustive set of questions and answers dwelling on all the significant issues. This essential learning helps us understand our spiritual heritage as a species and the place of India among the greatest civilizations of the world- ancient and modern. Further, the book charts out how Hindus can overcome the challenges confronting them today and communicate their diverse tradition more effectively, making it an ideal book for the Hindu youth.

Description:
Back of the Book
Some eminent personalities of the present-day, leaders of thought and action, speak in this book about the lessons they have learnt from their eventful lives. each one of them, who has attained success and celebrity in a particular field, looks back reflectively on the course of his life, on his failures and achievements. It will be seen from their accounts that their lives were marked by an interplay of fate and circumstance and that a kind providence gave them the wisdom and opportunity to surmount obstacles in their way. The lessons that they have learnt from their lives are only amplifications of the central maxim that "where there is Dharma, there is Victory," that there are no short-cuts to success and that it cannot be achieved bypassing the eternal laws of morality.
The contributors, who are from various sections of contemporary life, write with a revealing candour and, in not a few cases, are unsparing in the criticism of themselves. High-lighting the situation and events, rather than projecting themselves, they take care to keep their personalities in the background thereby sustaining the interest of the reader throughtout.

Description:
Here is an exposition of Buddhism conceived in a resolutely modern spirit by one of the most qualified and enlightened representatives of the religion. The book is a luminous account of fundamental principles of the Buddhist doctrine, as they are found in the most ancient texts, which are called 'The Tradition' (Agama) in Sanskrit and 'The Canonic Corpus' (Nikaya) in Pali. Dr. Rahula, who possesses an incomparable knowledge of these texts, refers to them constantly and almost exclusively. Their authority is recognized unenviously by all the Buddhist schools, which were and are numerous, but none of which ever deviates from these texts, except with the intention of better interpreting the spirit beyond the letter. The interpretation has indeed been varied in the course of the expansion of Buddhism through many centuries and vast regions, and the Law has taken more than one aspect. But the aspect of Buddhism here presented by Dr. Rahula-humanist, rational, Socratic in some respects, evangelic in others, or again almost scientific-has for its support a great deal of authentic scriptural evidence which he only had to let speak for themselves.
Review
'By far the best introduction to Buddhism available.' --R.F. Gombrich, Boden Professor of Sanskrit, University of Oxford.

Description
A journey of self-discovery
You may have conquered the whole world, but if you have not mastered yourself.
Do you know where you are going?
And perhaps the more important question is, where do you wish to go?
‘Tatah kim? Tatah kim?’ asked Adi Shankara, centuries ago. What then? Is making money the be-all and end-all of life?
The answer to that question cannot really be found in our diary entries or our schedule of appointments! Our activities cannot indicate the answer either. It is a question that forces one to reflect on the ultimate goal one has set for oneself.
In What Then, J.P. Vaswani expertly illustrates the importance of taking a step back and evaluating life. Are we living in order to die? Or are we living to exist? Or to eat, drink and be merry for we may die soon? Even in the frenetic pursuit of targets and goals, we need to pause and reflect on where we are headed, where our life is taking us, or, where we are trying to reach with our hectic efforts!
What then? Where does one go from here?
J.P. Vaswani was one of the leading spiritual luminaries of India. A gifted writer and brilliant orator, Dada, as he was lovingly called, addressed distinguished audiences worldwide on love, faith, joy and peace. He was the recipient of several honors, including the prestigious U Thant Peace Award. He penned over 80 books and many of them have been translated into various foreign languages.
